07:39 AM ET 11.18 | The Dodgers have inquired about Mark DeRosa and John Smoltz, according to their agent, Keith Grunewald. The agent said that the Dodgers are one of a dozen teams that have asked about DeRosa, identifying the others as the Cardinals, Mariners, Nationals, Giants, Phillies, Orioles, Rangers, Yankees, Mets, Twins and Braves.

DeRosa... yeah; Smoltz... NAAH!!

Smoltz needs to stay in the NL.

Simply put. There are a bunch of teams looking at a bunch of guys and we have no idea where they're gonna end up so we're just gonna guess...

A FACT with the high octane all go no stop slam it on every thread pessimism today! Rock on bro!

I'd like to see DeRosa back, but not if the bidding goes over 6 million or more than 2 years. He's a 35 year old utility player. Granted he's one of the very best utility players, but he's still an aging utility player.

Well- I have been up since 5am with the whole OT thing here at work. The orst wart in waiting for something to read on this site- the first thing they had put up was the friggin Mets thread... Wow. That was awful.

does this mean that the Red Sox MAY miss out on Smoltz? Heavens to Betsy - that would be horrible for them....i think Smoltzie is primed for a break out year in the AL East.

Theo just put out a press release this morning that they won't go after him, and that they've never been interested in high-risk low-reward signings anyway.

You are very wise, CF2. I agree with this statement completely.

Reading comments from the STL Post Dispatch this morning, it appears, that once again the Cards will go cheap and lose any potential to protect Pujols with either Holliday or DeRosa. Next thing is we will lose the best player in baseball for the very same reason. I don't know how much money the STL owner needs, as he should have plenty with the over 3mil attendance once again....PITIFUL

Honestly I dont see the Dodgers needing either of them or either one of them fitting in with the Dodgers unless John Smoltz pitches middle innings relief and Mark Derosa is a bench player? I thought they already had Juan Pierre for that but what the hell do I know, I'm not Joe Torre.

The only thing I saw in the Post which would lead me to believe that is Joe Strauss misrepresenting what Mo said about Jason Bay. Mo said Bay is a possibility, but not a priority. Who didn't know that Holliday is our first priority.

It's also possible Adam Dunn might be better in the Cards lineup than Jason Bay due to our need of some left handed power. Bay and Dunn both are defensive liabilities.

DeRosa is going to the Phillies.

November 18, 2009  04:26 PM ET

If the Dodgers go after DeRosa they would use him as the everyday second baseman .......... Hudson and Belliard are gone.

November 18, 2009  04:34 PM ET

Smoltz will be more effective next year after an additional year of healing and strengthening of his arm. He also has a lot of heart and is determined to finish his career on top.

November 18, 2009  04:39 PM ET

John Smoltz needs to go back to the Atlanta Braves where he started his career and retire in a Braves Jersey. John Smoltz is one of my Favorite Pitchers and he needs to go back to the Braves and retire in a Braves Jersey

Let them have the old folks, why the would spend the money on players that are past their time is beyond me. The seem to have a decent farm system and good young players now, why screw that up.

The Dodgers are in the NL!!! Maybe you've seen them in the NLCS the last couple of years.
