07:35 AM ET 11.19 | The Calgary Flames addressed a heated confrontation that reportedly took place postgame between coach Brent Sutter and defenseman Dion Phaneuf. No one exactly confirmed the exchange, but they didn't deny it either. "I'm not being ignorant, but those things happen," Sutter said, invoking the what's-said-in-the-dressing-room, stays-in-the-dressing-room defense. "It's no one else's business. It's between players and players, and players and coaches".

One thing about all those Sutters, they do come across as hard-headed. If FN got the story from the Calgary Herald instead of the Globe and Mail, we'd probably know more about what caused the confrontation and who said what.

I am wondering if Brent Sutter informed Phaneuf that he wasn't just enjoying sloppy seconds, but that he was actually getting the tainted thirds.

This is a second time Phaneuf has a confrontation with a Sutter. Darryl begun the demolition derby and Brent Sutter wants to finish it!

Yes, the Sutters are hot-headed but, Deon Phaneuf is a sheyet-head and needs to be cut down to size. He thinks he's Bobby Orr, Nicklas Lidstrom and Scott Stevens all wrapped up into one. He's got some skill and toughness but the truth is he's just a petulant punk!

I HOPE GLOBE AND MAIL DIDN'T HAVE TO STOP THE PRESS FOR THIS SCORCHER!

Celine is a legend in his own mind for sure.

I have never liked him and not just because he's a Flame. Always thought him to be overrated.

"what's-said-in-the-dressing-room, stays-in-the-dressing-room defense."

He is invoking the Vegas defense? ;)

LOL!!!

November 19, 2009  10:21 AM ET

A coach arguing with his OWN player? No way!

November 19, 2009  10:39 AM ET

Maybe Phaneuf was trying to show Sutter he doesn't have to be the most mundane person in all of sports. Having to watch Sutter's press conference's for two years, I finally realized what was better than warm milk, nyquil, a fifth of vodka and melatonin to help you sleep, listening to Sutter for 2 minutes.

Phaneuf probably asked to ride in the car with Elisha on Grey Cup Sunday in Calgary (since she is the grand marshal) but Sutter probably told him he had to stay with the team during their road trip...

I read the Herald and there was not much more said about the incident. It is old news that Phanuef is not popular with his teamates and is considered a selfish player. I'm not a Sutter fan but on this one I have to agree with him especially after his performance against the Av's

After his rookie year when he was a candidate for the Norris and Calder everyone thought he was going to be somthing special. What the Flames got was an arrogant pr**k who only
shows up on occasion. I agree DC he does have some skill and toughness he just dosn't bring it.

I like him that uniform. I just hope nobody wakes him up.

Unfortunately he is basically a Sutter boy, he is always having dinner with the big family and what not. Which means he will always be in Calgary...for shame

Thanks for the info. I haven't seen or read about the Avs game. I'll take your word for it he stunk up the joint.

Phaneuf still believes it! But he's the only one!
