good luck with the work permit, buddy.

Why on earth would they choose this photo?!?

Is it a "warning shot" for heading over to 'Gers?

November 19, 2009  08:36 AM ET

Please don't go to the SPL... it's like... the dying ground for promising US talents. There's just no competition there week to week. Literally. Opposing teams would see the same results against Rangers and Celtic if they didn't field any players at all...

I was wondering the same exact thing!

He was born in Scotland and already signed with Sunderland straight out of college. I don't think a work permit will be a problem.

What gets me is that FN's headline is that Holden is interested in the SPL; does it say that in the article, because it doesn't hint at it in the soccer365.com article. Oh well, guess it's better than Such-and-such team is eyeing Stuart Holden.

Even if this weren't the case, all the looks he's been getting with the USMNT might have met the qualifications.

Edu went to Rangers (with little senior team experience) and started his first year. I have a feeling SPL isn't hard to crack

1. He doesn't need a work permit.
2. The photo shows that the intern putting up the T&Rs today has a better grasp on our collective sense of humor.... C'mon! He's being kicked in his babynuts!
3. Reyna didn't "die off" at Rangers... Not sure I would say it is a dying ground. Hell, as bad as Beasley is, he's still getting PT this year!
4. Thank god no one is EYEING him... I agree....
5. He does not necessarily meet the qualifications HAD he needed a permit.
6. Edu, in fact, had accumulated enough regular service with the NAtional team to get a permit. And I would not call that experience "limited." In 2008, when he was healthy, of the 9 FIRST TEAM USMNT games (that is, when BB was using the first-teamers) he played in 8 of 9 games. The work permit committee do take into account (make a distinction) between games that are for 1st teamers and games made for the national team manager to experiment with new players.
7. Kennybabs, when you say the SPL is easy to crack, do you mean that it isn't hard to crack the starting 11 on Rangers or Celtic?

Yeah. I thought you could only kick one ball in soccer. Am I right? *:P*

jim, epic fail....

was born in scotland... work permit wont be an issue

November 19, 2009  11:18 AM ET

this isnt surprising.... Holden will gain interest...

dont be surprised to see Rogers heading over to Europe as well... both players are out of contract

Let's see where he lands before getting into whether it's a good or bad move. But if it's about which league is better for him long term, I say send him to a club in England that has a chance at gaining promotion into the Premier League. This way he gets quality minutes on a winning club where the spotlight isn't as great and gets to taste some success.

November 19, 2009  11:33 AM ET

this headline is idiotic, holden said he had interest from England, not the EPL,

This picture of Holden proves that FanNation hates soccer.

and please please make good choice in the team you pick, a championship side would be good, one that looks like it could go up (Newcastle anyone)

Isn't he from Aberdeen? Would he consider suiting up for his hometown Dons? I think a move to a club like WBA or Cardiff would be wiser than anything Scotland has to offer.

you corrected me on the Edu Nat experience...but i had figured a work permit in SPL wasn't as restricted, as say, EPL.
