06:54 AM ET 11.20 | The Phillies' top project is to replace Pedro Feliz at third base. Hot-stove followers have already become well-acquainted with the names of potential acquisitions; Adrian Beltre, Mark DeRosa, and Placido Polanco are three players the Phils figure to monitor and possibly pursue. All are veterans who would not require a long-term commitment.

when did polanco start playing 3rd base?

He did part time when he was with the cardinals and then the phillies but he is not a true 3rd baseman and why we dont need him. Beltre would be a perfect fit at third and hitting 7th in this lineup, a gold glover with power.

i would expect a lot of gold gloves for lowell now...he can only move 1 foot each way....there's a lot of "BALLS" that he can't get to.

Some folks feel the same way about Jeter.

Chone Figgins...otherwise resign Pedro Feliz...Lowell I've always liked since he joined Boston but he is OLD. Beltre use Roids the one year blew up but has been a pig ever since...forget him and as for Polanco...he prob would be a down grade at third + when Philly traded him back in the day it was because he didnt want to play third...so forget about him. DeRosa I would like for a utility player not my every day third baseman...

Beltre has sucked since getting the big contract. I wouldn't touch him. Lowell I'm not sure would stay healthy although he's clutch. Figgins is a good option but I wonder how Rollins would feel about not leading off.

I agree. Beltre is the way to go. And he shouldn't cost a whole lot either.

Why would he stop leading off? Hell they could swap 1-2 spots every other outing, I'm sure they wouldn't have an issue with that..................wait scratch that, they're professional athletes................get somebody good Philly, Feliz wasn't that bad when you add his glove into the equation.................

now i only see feliz in postseason so perhaps i'm missing something. but the guy gets big hits, plays good d, obviously comfortable in postseason....... it's reminiscent of the yankees in early 00s where they sort of lost sight of the fact that postseason performance is a unique skill set and that replacing a feliz with a guy with better reg season numbers isn't always an upgrade.

Jeters range factor was 3.90, which is lower than every starting SS other Edgar Renteria. An objective analysis of SS statistic shows that Erick Aybar should have won the Gold Glove. He considerably more chances, put outs, assists and double plays than Jeter.

Palanco isnt a good choice, hes too old and hes not a 3rd basemen, hes all about 2nd. And DeRosa is dirt, they should def conisder that, same with Beltre, and...Jimmy Rollins will never not be leading off. thats his spot. HIS SPOT.

I think that Pedro Feliz is still the guy. He is a solid defensive player and still showing improvement with respect to hitting. If the Phillies were to make a move in the interest of winning next year (this would be consistent with exercising their option for Lee), then I think they should take a hard look at Chone Figgins. He's an excellent defensive player and he can also bat leadoff, which would allow Rollins to be more aggressive out of the two-spot, which would better suit his hitting style.
