Hawkins on way out of Colorado?

09:58 AM ET 11.20 | The love is gone. There is nothing left for Dan Hawkins to do except say goodbye, and nowhere for him to go except out the door. A good man has failed as football coach of the Buffaloes. The only logical choice Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn has now? Fire Hawkins. A heartbreaking 31-28 loss to 12th- ranked Oklahoma State on Thursday night defined the woulda-shoulda- coulda nature of the Hawkins era at CU, where his record is a totally unacceptable 16-32.

Get rid of him hire someone new -move on. Hawkins needs no sympathy he will leave a multimillionaire. Funny how you get paid millions, perform terribly, lose big time and probably won't have to work ever again. It would be great if all coaches got paid after the end of each season on their records. The dude at New Mexico will make 1 million and go winless amazing.

Why is there a question mark here? Yes, he is gone. Despite having a down year with Buffalo, an injury-plagued one, Turner GIll will get looked at closely by both Colorado and Kansas.

You think Gill is the top man for the job? He hasn't had a very good year with Buffalo right?

Thought that because Gill has a white wife he wasn't getting a fair shake on big jobs. Course I read that Charles Barkley made the comment.

The only question is can they have the money to buy out his contract and pay for a new coach. CU is sliding back to the pre-McCartney times.

Gill had to break in a new QB and, according to Kiper, lost a first day draft pick for the year when Starks went down with a torn labrum. He had to play musical chairs at RB and they still hae a shot at 5-7, but again it is a down year.

Having said that, he turned around the worst program in three years and won a conference title, so that gives him some capital for this season. Now, if he comes back and has another bad year then I would take him out of consideration for a promotion. Anyway, Gill shouldn't have to worry since Gene Chizik took a bad Iowa State team and made them worse, but he received a promotion to Auburn. As soon as Chizik leaves, Iowa State goes back to being bowl eligible.

The problem at CU is that they keep wanting to hire "the next best thing", like Hawkins and Barnett...they need to look for guys who are consistent and not just a flash in the pan

Who wants to bet that we'll see a "Hawkins headed to Notre Dame?" thread tomorrow?

November 20, 2009  11:31 AM ET

The only comment I have for this thread is "Duh"... Thank you and have a pleasant afternoon.

Whoa... Don't talk like that... But yeah, I'm a little surprised they didn't try and sneak something like that into this thread.

Can you make a case? Connect Hawkins to ND (perhaps through Kevin Bacon?)?
If so, plaster it everywhere you see piratey and the "good" ND crew on the T&R carousel.

OK, is Dirty Underwear (joined 11/19/09, LA, USC fan) from yesterday's Shannahan thread just another identity for Scratchy Panties? Did Sandy get "shunned" by the FN admins? Did one of SU's deleted posts go too far?

Sandy's account is still active.

I agree with those who think Turner Gill deserves a shot at a big school. Recruiting players to go to Buffalo has to be one of the toughest challenges in college football. He has done a tremendous job rebuilding that team. As for him having a white wife, who gives a rats butt.

I saw that... I'm not sure... I think someone might be having a little fun with Scratchy.

Why because of academic standards? I have been to Boulder Coloardo and it's a great college town, your 1 hour from Denver, 1 hour from the best ski resorts. The town is full of hot college co-eds, what's not to like?
Granted a coach is going to have to travel to find recruits but don't they all?

Turner Gill would be a great fit.

They can't afford established coachs so they hve to roll the dice on "the next best thing" and hold thier breath. CU is never going to be a top tier team again. They are gong to be the Big 12 norths Baylor. At least until the Big 12 gets smart and kicks them out to add steal Iowa from the 11 team Big 10.
