It wouldn't surprise me if, within the next couple of years, that the Yankees rotation consists of Sabathia, Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, Cliff Lee and Zack Greinke.

Halladay, not Holliday is going to be the big story of the offseason. Sorry Scott, your guys just can't compete with one of the top, if not the top, starter in the game.

I agree with your opinion of Halladay being one of the top pitchers in the game, if not the best, but here were times in 2009 where he looked "ordinary" and a bit vulnerable out there on the mound. (I guess even Koufax during his great run of those six or so seasons that clinched his HOF plaque had some "ordinary and vulnerable" moments, also.)

That being said, I would think that until Halladay is either traded or signed long term we will be treated to at least one of these T&Rs a day of a team "keeping an eye" on the guy. I just don't know if he will be worth the king's ransom that the Jays will want for him. I think ultimatley he goes to a dark horse team no one is even considering being a favorite to land him right now. Sort of like how Santana went to the Mets when everyone had penciled in either the Red Soxx or the Yankees as the team who would land that ace.

Let me guess, I bet the Red Sox are keeping an eye on him too. Wow these free agent stories are awesome. He'd be a great addition to that home-grown world series winning pitching staff.

Don't want Oswalt. Greinke may be too fragile to pitch in NY and Llee is maybe a year or two from going into a decline.

However if the Yankees can somehow get Halladay on the cheap.....

The only way to get Halladay on the cheap (prospect wise) is if your willing to take Vernon Wells in the deal.

I hate to say this because it will just fuel all those who say "see the Yankees can just outspend everybody" BUT the Yankees have exploited the arguably biggest market in MLB and actually can afford anyone they want.

BUT... they also do have to spend money more wisely because ultimately while the NY Yankees are the driving force for other Yankees Global Enterprises' companies (YES and Legends Hospitality, etc...) revenues it would make sense if the NYY's themselves could also prove to be a positive revenue source for their investors (essentially, the Steinbrenners and Goldman Sachs).

Besides that it must get tiring to contribute over $100 million to other teams each year and watch those owners who are on the receiving end stuff the cash into their pockets.

They FINALLY won a title this year after YEARS of spending top dollars.

I'll just be happy if Halladay gets out of the AL East. He is the best pitcher in baseball, but I think he'll cost too much to make him worth it. I'd rather wait a year and try to sign him as a FA then give up the ransom in young talent that he will require.

He probably costs the Yankees two or three wins a year by pitching against us so often.

The problem with the Yankees, is that they only have pitching prospects, and the Jays have a ton of young good pitchers, we need bats. Also, the Yankees would have to take Wells.

Probably...but I think his stint in Oakland definitely took a few digits off the number. Talk about a guy getting exposed as a NL wonder. It was a "quirk" when the AL pitchers came over here and went 10-1 in 11 starts. But you really gotta wonder if there's something to the AL/NL thing when big hitters flame out like that.

Makes you appreciate Bay that much more. If I'm a GM, Bay is worth probably 20% more than Holliday simply because I don't have to wonder if he can hit "real" pitching.

The yankees should keep the depth chart they have now and add Austin Jackson and Matt Holliday. Keep Damon(dh) for two years and expect Wang and Chamberlain to carry the weight of next season. With Andy's return this will lead to another return to a championship. Pena as super sub, they will need a power bat off the bench. Ian Kennedy and Chad Gaudin will do just fine.

Trade for him, please! This is what I would like to see, not saying it'll happen, just what I would like to see. The Jays accept a trade of Joba, Montero, one minor leaguer and (blank)-amount of scrill to aid in V-Wells' gaffe of a contract. Then we sign Doc to an extension and he's in pinstripes for the next 5 years:) Not saying anything will happen, that's just what I would like to see...
