Why Knicks passed on Iverson

07:16 AM ET 11.21 | Now Knicks fans can blame Eddy Curry for something else. It seems the Knicks center, not Allen Iverson, is "The Answer." Knicks president Donnie Walsh announced yesterday the team had decided not to sign Iverson, the controversial 34-year-old guard, to a one-year contract. Walsh linked Curry's emergence in his season debut Wednesday against the Pacers (10 points and four rebounds in 11 minutes) with tipping the scales against signing Iverson. In saying the Knicks "rethought" their position on Iverson, Walsh ended a wild week full of flip-flops and fan frenzy favoring the move.

Eddy Curry's emergence? I don't know much about Walsh, but taken out of context, this reasoning kind of feels like a "we don't want your old, superstar ass anywhere near our team, but we don't want to burn any bridges" type of statement.

Well let's see why....
Sprewell was a diva, The baller formerly known as Starbury was a diva, Isiah Thomas created some controversy.
Hmmm id say thats a chance they are not willing to take!
He could have helped them though.
But A.I aint coming off the bench for nobody.
Mr. Practice? We talking about practice!
I tought I told ya im a star til im old and gray!

Curry "tipped the scales" against Iverson?

Ha, ha, ha.

November 21, 2009  08:28 AM ET

I think this is the biggest crock I've ever heard. If you believe this, maybe you'd be interested in some beachfront property I have for sale just outside Vegas.

November 21, 2009  08:29 AM ET

Donnie, you are making some people want Isaiah back. Eddie Curry? ROFLMAO

November 21, 2009  08:54 AM ET

Is that Iverson's IQ on the front of his jersey or the number of seconds it now takes for a team that aquires him to regret it?

November 21, 2009  09:01 AM ET

It's official--if Walsh is making decisions for the team's future based on Eddy Curry's first work in over a year, he's lost his freakin' mind.

In retrospect- regardless of how/why the decision was made-
it was a good one

It was a No-brianer ALWAYS, so I'm not sure why you are giving Walsh any credit for the decision.
But it does sound like a "NO-BRAINER" logic to me. Curry enlightened Walsh?? So what happens when Curry gets lost in a Buffet on their next road trip, then ring up AI to play center?
Woooow you guys have some circus going on in the broncs brother!! Thanks for the free entertainment though hhahahahaha

not to hate, but i knew reality would set in for the Heat...Unfortunately, when Boozer publically wanted to come to miami for a one year try-out with a one year contract that wouldn't have really hurt the heat as much as waiting for Beasley's consistency has, Riley didn't take him and the only talent who's out there for nothing is Iverson. Now as the Heat hit their downward spiral of their projectile motion journey, Miami really needs help and Iverson could be their "Answer", because, to be quite honest, he's the only one available...plus, Spoe still has that 'go down with a sinking ship' personality instead of 'let's change our course to avoid sinking'...i.e. since Q isn't consistently starting at SF, give it to Dorrell, who's athletic, and let Q come off the bench...We are short on bigs, athleticism and talent, so instead of trying to be a defensive teams against teams who can just shoot over us, jump over us or outquick our so called defensive players, shouldn't we be running more? So put the runners on the floor...

Walsh statement regarding not signing AI is a legit as what he said about Curry's re-emergence!

November 21, 2009  09:41 AM ET

Iverson is T.I.R.E.D...move on!

I totally disagree. Iverson's presence only takes minutes away from the guards and lets face it the only guard worth developing on the team is Douglas. So if you want Douglas to be a top tier guard would you rather have him compete against Duhon or Iverson... whatever happened to setting the bar high?

The administration screwed this one up. I guess common sense is not common to common people at common times.

Curry is often injured, hasn't played NBA level competetion, no training camp in two years... he plays 11 minutes and you hinge the success of a whole season on him? I mean c'mon what are you smoking?

of course its a crock. What is Donnie supposed to say...we dont want AI b/c he is a problem as a person and in the locker room. Donnie has way to much class to do that.

again, Donnie had to come up w/something other than he didnt want another cancer on his team. He is not going to disrespect a future HOFer.

When is some of this class going to turn this mess into a winner?

But will A.I put his ego aside to win?
Or will he be a bigger diva than Whitney Houston?

in 2010 when they can have money to finally spend. Knicks will be a much better team in 2010 when the true rebuilding begins.
