08:19 AM ET 11.22 | The Bills have already reached out to Mike Shanahan, who will be coaching somewhere in the league next season. But Shanahan is not going to commit to anything until he sees what other jobs open up. He will most likely replace Jim Zorn in Washington.

Why would anyone want to work for Daniel Snyder. . . or Al Davis for that matter?

November 22, 2009  08:30 AM ET

I guess for the $ ?? I can't see Shanahan going to Washington without total autonomy...and Snyder will never give that....

November 22, 2009  08:45 AM ET

Hire a new coach why recycle an old retread midget like Shanahan. Pay a younger kid less money, he would relate better to the players and throw the old goat Shanahan out with the bath water.

Working for Wilson has to be better then working for Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder or Al Davis.....

Working for Ronald McDonald would be better than working for Daniel Snyder, though they are both clowns.

what has Shanny really accomplished since Elway left ? NOTHING
he's not a 'bad' coach- but he's HUGELY over-rated
give me a reason to give him total control?

I mean he's won ONE playoff game without Elway- in 10 years.

Chico and Ray will not be happy to hear this. CD, 40 and I, on the other hand, are thrilled that Shanahan will be plying his trade elsewhere than in Dallas.

Even with the $$$ and autonomy, Dan Snyder is still the boss. Shanahan worked for Al Davis once, and will probably steer clear of anyone who comes close to the example of "meddlesome owner".

QUOTE(#1):

Because Snyder is desperate enough to give him total control, just like he had in Denver. He does not want to be " just " a Head Coach, he wants it all. He is NOT a good GM. His FA signings were horrible, his drafts mediocre and the results inconsistent.

Excellent point. Leslie Frazier, Mike Zimmer, Russ Grimm, Ron Rivera... it wouldn't have to be one of these guys, but there are talented assistant coaches out there. The owner/GM just needs to put effort into finding the right guy, as opposed to just settling for who is the most readily-available (which is how Jauron probably was hired to begin with).

I agree. Why recycle old coaches over and over again? Has the NFL gone green? Nah, the only green they recognize is the color of money. I'll post it once again, Atlanta has shown it doesn't take a big-name coach or HC to turn a team around. Just do your homework and take some risks.

Works for me. Dallas let Sean Payton slip through their fingers. Bad move.

I'll stay with any of Zimmer, Fisher or Gruden (?) being my viable options.

Gruden is most likely staying in TV. Not sold on Fisher. Zimmer is good, but I like the idea of Gregg Williams. Zimmer has coached in Dallas, so he probably knows too much about Jerrah to be coaxed back. Also, promote Stephen Jones to GM.

I agree with that. The odds of a "recycled " coach being successful are at least as high as " New " meat.
Recycling Belichik and Coughlin worked out pretty good.

Phillips is at least 50/50 to return. The cowboys will make the play offs, throw in some success there and he stays. Jones has stood behind him, if he did not let him go after last seasons finale, then it would take a lot for him to let him go..just what I think.

At some point, you have to take a chance. That's how Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry got their chance. Jimmy Johnson was a successful college coach, but few believed he could turn the Cowboys around in such a short period. There has to be some talent around at the assistant level and in the college ranks.

As stated previously, I like Gregg Williams. I think he would be a great HC.

NOOOO!!! I do want them to have some success in the playoffs. I cannot root against my team. Still, Wade is in the final year of his contract. I have not heard of any negotiations on a contract extension. Shanahan will most likely be the new Cowboys HC.

He was also responsible for the 'prima-donna' attitudes in Denver(see Cutler/Marshall). He is not a 'team' builder.

He has a new million dollar home outside of Denver, so maybe you are right. His wife will probably determine where he goes. lol. After all, he is human..
