Will Weis agree to Irish exit today?

08:56 AM ET 11.22 | Arms locked with his players, emotions anything but in check, Charlie Weis walked onto the field at Notre Dame Stadium for what certainly will be the last time as Irish coach. If there was even the slightest chance Weis would return for a sixth season, it was dashed after Andre Dixon's four-yard touchdown run, the difference in this 33-30 double-overtime loss to Connecticut. Minutes after Dixon had crossed the goal line near Notre Dame's stone-silent student section, athletic director Jack Swarbrick stood and stared blankly as a dejected Clausen dropped his helmet just feet away. Swarbrick and Weis might meet today and agree the regular-season finale Saturday at Stanford will be Weis' last.

18 million reasons to smile Charlie!!!!! Do one of the worst coaching jobs in college football history and leave with one of the largest multi-million dollar buyouts ever. The American way.

The 2009 Notre Dame Football Season = the Charlie Weis Farewell Tour.

We had such high hopes for this year. There is no freakin' way we should have lost to Michigan, Navy, Pittsburgh, and Connecticut. You know you're in trouble when Dave Wannestadt outcoaches you. I wish Charlie well; I'm sure he'll be able to find work as an offensive coordinator at the professional level. Hell, maybe even Belichek will welcome him back.

But for the love of God, let the Irish find a coach who will make this team a force in college football again. I am so sick and tired of losing to teams we should have beaten; I am so tired of people being content with just being competitive with USC.

Brian Kelly, are you listening?

He should work for a bank or other financial institution.

Well Fighting Irish fans and Directors of Sports at the school........

I disagree with firing Weis or any "college" coach with this amount of time coaching at the school.

Look at some of the best college coaches careers.....

Paterno, Bowden and many others have had season where they struggled, talent that is supposed to be the best doesn't always turn up that way. Plus there are injuries, grades and competing sports to contend with.

To me, you have to give these guys at least 6 years, unless of course they can't win 3 or 4 games a year and that is not the case here.

I hate people who don't know facts...They lost to Navy 2 years ago, beat Navy last year and lost to them this year...watch some football Navy was a few calls away from beating Ohio State this year too...

Will he fit through the door or will they have to extract him with a crane ala Jerry Springer?... Wait is that guy still around?

just watch the way his team performs for him... that UConn game was brutal to watch...

What ever happened to "the voters aren't giving us any respect. We should be ranked higher." I won't miss Weis but it has been a hoot watching the tortured fans groan for a few years.

Notre Dame has been too panicky of late. They prematurely fire Willingham in order to hire Urban, lose him then scramble to get Charlie to save face. I hope they take their time this time to get a better coach.

Are you out of your mind. Your comparing Weis situation to Paterno or Bowden. Weis can't beat a top 25 team and can't come close to a national championship, and you want to keep him. Paterno had one bad year at Penn state, but you know what he could do as a coach, so you keep him, Weis has not proven anything as a coach. ...........And its ND fault he will get 16million when he's fired. If they didn't jump the gun a few years ago and extend his contract, this would not be an issue.

November 22, 2009  09:44 AM ET

One thing is for sure. Charlie Weis' time at ND is done. Two big losses to lesser teams at home. A mandate to get to a BCS bowl and at least 9 wins with a VERY easy schedule. Hell, you had Beano Cook and Lou Holtz claiming ND would go to the BCS NC game this year. That's how much they thought of the ND team this year even though they are pole suking ND homers. But here's one thing. Who ever takes over ND football isn't going to have an easy task because the team is going to lose a lot of talent.

Thank you, JRM. It has been indeed a disappointing year for us Domers!

Isn't UConn supposed to beat ND?

Ohh, this wasn't basketball...

I was there yesterday...The crowd(and I) was calling for his head all game long. We booed him after the end of the 1st half when he ran out the clock. His red-zone playcalling was once again brutal. He threw one fade in the red-zone all game...it was in OT...it resulted in a TD. He called a total of 4 pass plays in the redzone. In one trip he had 3 straight running plays from the 7 yard line and we settled for a field goal. WE ARE NOT A RUNNING TEAM CHARLIE, WE ARE A PASSING TEAM, THAT IS OUR STRENGTH, USE IT TO SCORE YOU FAT PIECE OF DONKEY SHEET.
