North Korea to censor World Cup heavily

11:15 AM ET 12.08 | Kim Jong-Il, the North Korean leader, is reportedly planning a unique strategy for televising next year's World Cup. The Dear Leader has allegedly decreed that no live matches will be shown on state TV -- only highlights edited in North Korea's favor. If they lose a match, the result will simply be ignored.

When are we gonna get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and head to North Korea and drop a bomb on this punk ****.

December 8, 2009  11:35 AM ET

They will ignorer the result...until the team returns home, and who-knows-what happens to the players.

Would **** to be a soccer fan in North Korea. You'd be all excited about you team going and then according to your President they played no games :)

Is gambling legal in North Korea? If it is, I'll have to find a way to place a bet there that North Korea wins the World Cup this year. :-)

Please, Iran showed the 1994 World Cup in January 1995. The tv censorship bureau cut out all the scenes where the camera would pan into the audience/fans and replaced it with footage of NY Giants fans watching a Giants game during the winter months. This way all the fans were bundled up and Iran could say it was showing the World Cup live. Amazing what you could do before the Internet.

So I guess we know who the 2010 World Cup winner is gonna be. North Korea, congratulations!!!

Just don't play any sport if you are going to be this ignorant. Oppression and censorship will always lose.

Haha, my thoughts exactly!

This is a team though I am very curious to see play as I know absolutely nothing about them. If they play similar to South Korea then they should put up a decent fight.

What's the big deal? I do this every summer during the Cubs season.

If North Korea automatically advances then that makes that group even more interesting. It may come down to goal difference and thus, for example, whether the Fearless Leader decrees a close 1-0 victory or a 6-0 blowout of Brazil.

When someone tips their propaganda hand this far in advance it would strike me as an ideal opportunity to make sure you can transmit competing, pirate telecasts that show the truth.

It will be interesting to see how this will be handled. The weird thing will be how players handle the farce since some of them play in leagues outside of NK. Also, many of the players are ethnics born outside of NK in countries like Japan so it is safe to assume their families do not live in NK. I do not think Jong Il's death grip can extend that far.

Now, that would be a collector's item, the fake trophy of 2010.

In other news, did you know North Korea swept every event at the 2008 Summer Olympics? Yeah, it wasn't Michael Phelps that won eight golds, it was actually Ban Ji-Kim, a Cinderella story from the outskirts of Pyongyang. Also, Dear Leader is responsible for the sun rising in the East to bring glory to triumphant North Korea. We shall sodomize the Western oppressors with the might of our people and the leadership of our Glorious Warrior God Leader.

Holy sh-t! Some of the older guys might remember this one. Did anyone notice who this story is attributed to? The National. As in the short-lived national sports daily every young kid who wanted to be a sportwriter dreamed of working for??? Is The National making a comeback???
