I realize he's a great DE, but his impact on the field last year was pretty poor. He has almost no ability to stop the run, only what, 3 sacks? and until they get a legitimate threat to rush from the other side, teams can simply continue to double team Dwight. I wonder if the Colts are planning to build up the rest of the D or are just trying to maintain the status quo.

Kinda seems like blowing your wholw wad on one, one-dimensional guy, doesn't it? Oh well, there's nothing wrong with rewarding the guys that get you to the top, I guess, I just hope this doesn't cripple the team. Really, when I think about it, Freeney is more or less replacing Edgerrin's contract with this puppy, isn't he?

He actually had a great impact last year. He was double teammed every time, letting Mathis get 11.5 sacks. And the reason why he is "one-dimensional" is because John Teerlick is a terrible D-line coach.

The highest paid defensive player is a highly paid player that defends his teams goal from being scored in. Dwight Freeney works hard at doing that - and he also enjoys fishing - maybe (I've never really spoken to him about it, but if he does like it then he probably has a boat). Go Huskers!

This guy was made for the cover 2... His sole purpose is to be a pass rusher and you can't argue with the results... they had to lock up this guy. Especially after losing June at the LB position... It's what makes Dungy brilliant is he allows the defense to utilize their speed and make plays. Good move Colts!

Sanders is staying. The colts dont spend a whole lot of money on older free agents. They keep only the best and draft very well.

Bill Polian is the idiot. I don't know why the media keeps giving him such credit when he left two previous franchises in salary cap hell before abandoning them. He's set up Indianapolis for the same thing, so I imagine he will announce his "surprise" retirement in the next two years.

Freeney is a one dimensional player, and all this means is that legitimately great defensive ends like Julius Peppers will now require enormous contracts. Meanwhile the Colts will have to field a team of veteran minimum and undrafted players because they have so much cap tied up in their four stars. They better enjoy Joseph Addai while they have him too, because they certainly can't afford another extension.

They will feel this one next year. SO LONG REPEAT (like it was going to happen anyways).

The Colts D-line could have been one of the greatest with ends Freeney and Mathis and experienced tackles Mcfarland and Simon. But with all the crap Simon is putting the Colts through all signs lead to him being done and Raheem Brock taking the starting role next to Booger, which in my eyes isent that bad a thing because I believe Brock is one of the most underrated defensive players in the NFL, as well as Mathis for that matter

Sanders is set to get a huge deal now too that they wont be sacrificing too much cap room over Freeney's 6 years.

There is not a saftey in the game today that can say that they are better than Ronnie Lott even when there carrers are all said and done Lott will still be the best Saftey to Ever play the game
