The Red Wings see Henrik Zetterberg as the next captain after Nicklas Lidstrom, and they'll work on signing him to an extension next summer, the earliest time permitted under the collective bargaining agreement.

As they should. The guy does everything for them, plays in all situations, and dictates his will when he is on the ice. PLus, he doesn't take shifts off, playing hard every time he is on the ice. He'd of got 100 points last year if he hadn't gotten hurt, and he could score even more if he wasn't so busy doing all the other little things that complete hockey players do. Sign him for as long as you can, he's young, and he's worth it!

Hey OLGA ! . . .or who ever the heck you are. . .probably some old crossdresser . . . . . where did you get your pic?. . . . . MSN or something . . .jeez

Nicklas Lidstrom is the undisputed captain of the Wings......hopefully for a few more years. Henrik will have to wait his turn. But, yeah, the Wings will do what's right and sign him for a long time.

Henrik is a hell of a player, but i can't see him being assertive/vocal enuf to be an effective captain.

July 16, 2007  09:32 AM ET

Yzerman wasn't a screamer but he commanded respect. Lidstrom does the same thing. And Zetterberg is the same way. Zetterberg will be a phenomenal captain.

Also, Lidstrom is like 37 years old now. I couldn't believe that when I realized it. Dang!

July 16, 2007  10:50 AM ET

37 and still the best - the best of our time, and likely the 2nd best of all time!

July 16, 2007  12:14 PM ET

Naxself, being assertive/vocal doesn't mean you have to scream. Look up the definition of the words.

Even if Stevie Y wasn't vocal (which he was), you had to respect him on character, guts and sportsmanship alone. The guy played on one leg for crying out loud. I like Zetterberg just fine... I just don't see him in the same class of player or character as Yzerman or Lidstrom.

Git 'er dun Kenny. This guy needs to be extended ASAP, for as long as possible. Get him signed the first day he's eligible for the extension.

July 16, 2007  03:15 PM ET

Ya for sure . . . .although them are big skates to fill . . . . serve as an alternate first for a couple more seasons then accept the promotion .

July 16, 2007  04:48 PM ET

Honestly, I doubt we will see another player like Steve Y in the next 10-20 yrs. Would be nice, but each player is different.

July 17, 2007  04:40 AM ET

Zetterberg has everything you'd ever want in a captain - he scores big goals, he plays solid D, he takes a lot of responsibility.

He's one of my favorite players, and he's on my favorite team, so I hope he is there for a LONG time
