Canucks may trade goalie prospect

Although Cory Schneider signed a three-year contract with the Canucks earlier this month, skipping his senior season at Boston College, don't rule out GM Dave Nonis dealing the 21-year-old goalie. Schneider should be the No. 1 netminder this year for Manitoba, Vancouver's AHL affiliate, but he's too talented to serve as an afterthought to Roberto Luongo, like Curtis Sanford is expected to be in 2007-08.

Exactly - the only problem is, they may not have the cap space to fit whomever they get for him, so they may have to trade for a non-roster player, prospects that AREN'T a goalie, ideally a defenceman, but the 'nucks could jsut about use ANY skater in their system right now

well. . . .there is the possiblity of trading for a 2009 draft pick. . . . .

The Canucks would be one step closer to lets say. . . . .TAVRES

They don't need Cory Schneider now. Might as well get something in return rather than let him sit or bury him in the minors.

Nucks are in the same boat as the Habs, though Habs are in better shape. No, they don't have a Luongo as starter but they do have an abundance of netminding young talent, that they will have to make some decisions on. They ddn't wait long enough on Vokoun before they let him go.. which is too bad for us. But whatever, Schneider isn't a Carey Price... so Nucks will likely have to 'settle' for a draft pick.. too many goalies out and about right now to think Schneider would become a #1 for any NHL team at this point.

I've seen this guy first hand many times, and he is nasty. The article is dead on saying he can't just waste in the minors and behind Luongo for years- in 2 years this guy can be a #1 somewhere.

But hey, at least he's off BC's roster. Go Maine

Think this guy would be great in Detroit. Ozzie is getting up there in years, Hasek will play this year & doubt will re-up (again).
