Timberwolves kept star Kevin Garnett apprised of trade inquiries before the recent NBA draft, but Garnett expressed a preference to remain in Minnesota. "His preference was that we not trade him," Wolves owner Glen Taylor said. The Wolves will continue to discuss trade scenarios, Taylor said, but they won't include Garnett.

Garnett, I completely understand loyalty, but you're either the dumbest NBA player in recent history, or you have NO desire to win an NBA ring.

July 17, 2007  08:29 AM ET

He will be free agent at the end of this season. I think he wants to see how the team will play this year. If the Wolves won't go to the playoffs, he'll leave Minnesota for free.

July 17, 2007  08:31 AM ET

Well, he is due for an NBA Championship and deserves a ring. However, the loyalty with a team with a GM such as Mchale would never bring you an NBA Championship. He will be on of the great players with no NBA Championship ring. Let him be and if he wants to stay then let him stay.

Hey, who can blame KG for not wanting to be traded?

One of those teams that McHale was talking to was the Celtics!

July 17, 2007  08:41 AM ET

He'd rather stay loyal to his team for one more year than be traded to some other team that will have the same outcome at the end of the year. i.e Celtics

Next year will be able to choose where he wants to go.

July 17, 2007  08:54 AM ET

Stop painting this as something noble: Garnett's put in his time and McHale is clearly a moron. He should jump at the chance to go to any other club at this point, esp. if he actually wants to win a championship.

I agree with KB-GOAT: he's either dumb or has no desire to win a championship.

July 17, 2007  09:19 AM ET

Loyalty or Laziness (unconcerned about winning)?

July 17, 2007  09:29 AM ET

KG is a WINNER.

July 17, 2007  09:37 AM ET

i'm so sick of owners putting spin on everything. KG probably said he didn't want to be a part of any of the trades being offered or something. i'm sure, after making his trade wants public, that he would publicly retract them if he meant that. the owner jumps out and says he's not going to look to trade kevin anymore. liar. if every one of my favorite players moved to the wolves, and they moved to milwaukee, unless ownership changed, i would never like this team.

Hello, people, just because we never see it anymore from these premadonna crybabies doesn't mean that the diplomatic athlete is extinct! The fact that KG didn't go "Kobe" and shred his GM and owner publicly doesn't mean he doesn't care about winning. Garnett, who ::gasp:: actually understands the meaning of "class", came to an understanding with his bosses about how to address the situation publicly, but it's foolish to believe they don't have a much different understanding privately. We are so conditioned by these loudmouth egomanics that that's he think it's supposed to work! Why doesn't everyone on Fan Nation go out and blab to everybody in your town about how your boss is an idiot because the guy in the next cubicle isn't a "team" player and you can't work with him! Why not? Might get fired? OF COURSE! You have that beef with your boss, you go behind closed doors and work it out. Then why isn't this the way it's supposed to work in sports?

July 17, 2007  10:03 AM ET

Kevin Garnett is just like every other player he wants to get his max-contract from the team that he has always played for & then after his career will blame the mgmt that he had for its failures to draft or go out & find suitable FAs. It's pretty hard to build a franchise around a great player when that one player eats up about 1/3 of the salary cap space. I used to think KG was different than the other players that were money ****, I have changed my mind. Kobe has tried to be vocal about it, but by no means would he take less money down the road to help build a better team around him.

July 17, 2007  10:11 AM ET

Why would KG even want to go to the Warriors, Lakers, or Celtics? He's biding his time so he can pick a team to sign with.

July 17, 2007  10:30 AM ET

KG is plain dumb is what it is. he actually is. he got honestly a 7 on his ACT or something like that, and that's pretty f'in bad. and I really don't consider this class. there's no reason to stay loyal to a fledgling franchise that hasn't been around for more than about two decades. if it were the celtics knicks lakers or something of the sort, then yes it'd be class. but the timberwolves don't have any sort of tradition so there's no reason why he should want to stay with them for his whole career, if he wants to win a championship. and i do believe he wants to win a championship, but he's plain stupid if he thinks the timberwolves are gonna get far especially in the Western Conference and with McHale at GM.

July 17, 2007  10:35 AM ET

Garnett is a fool, I would be on the first thing flying out of Minnesota..LMAO!

July 17, 2007  11:20 AM ET

Kevin McHale is the worst GM in basketball, hands down. He makes Isiah look like a genius.

July 17, 2007  11:33 AM ET

The grapes are sour in CA or what? Calling KG dumb, a fool, stupid, classless, a money grubber, lazy, questioning his desire to win....for what? Because he doesn't call out management in public and he honors his contract? Because of what he doesn't say?

Man, this guy is one of the best all-around players in the history of the game and he doesn't deserve this criticism. Why all the hate? He gives everything he has every minute he's on the court and off the the court his behavior has been nothing but exemplary. Save your hating for the haters.

July 17, 2007  11:47 AM ET

Kyle Ripkin jr. was with the O's for most of his career and never won a world series ring...was he being dumb or loyal?...Hummmm!

July 17, 2007  11:50 AM ET

he says he doesn't want to be traded huh?..... i bet u guys anything when he is a free agent, there is no chance in hell he stays in minnesota!!!!

July 17, 2007  11:50 AM ET

Dan Fouts would have won a super bowl had he gone to the Raiders!

July 17, 2007  11:56 AM ET

KG is a NBA fat cat .He no longer cares about winning , Just the cash and being able to be the poster boy for the wolves the rest of his life, is good enough for him.
