Rutgers lands Bronx recruit

Rutgers' basketball team has received a verbal commitment from Christian Morris, a 6-9, 270-pound Bronx native. The rising senior at South Kent (Conn.) Prep is scout.com's 28th-ranked center in the Class of 2008, and chose the Scarlet Knights over St. John's and Virginia, with Texas and UCLA also having shown interest. He ripped down multiple backboards with the Hawks - one at Rucker Park - and will provide some much-needed girth to Rutgers' size-starved team.

Good to hear Rutgers getting some recruits for different sports. They are really going to start to bring in even more top prep recruits from the tri-state area.

Rutgers is about to become a monster in The BEast. First Schiano builds up a football program, now the men's basketball program is pulling in the local talent. The rest of the nation better look out.

I love that he stayed somewhat local. But if he was gonna do that should have went to the Johnnies. I don't understand how anyone would pass up playing for UCLA though.

The story mentioned UCLA showing interest. Doesn't mean he was offered.

Also...you have a better shot at becoming a MONSTER in the BE with guys a little higher ranked than 28th at his position.

He should however provide plenty of entertainment ripping down backboards, taxicab doors, washing machine lids, etc...
