Artest would accept Knicks trade

Ron Artest said he's not asking to be traded, but wouldn't mind if it happened. He said he's not pushing for a trade to the Knicks, but sounded like someone who wants to come home in the worst way. He said he wants to stand by the Kings because they've stood by him. But he reopened the door to exercising his opt-out clause after the 2007-08 season, a possibility that could help precipitate a trade.

I think Artest would help the knicks out alot..He is a veteran player who can play tough defense and also score..The knicks would benefit from this trade in the long run if they get rid of Lee or Balkman for him..

July 17, 2007  12:42 PM ET

If anything Mizzle they should keep Balkman along with getting Artest. That's a good defensive pairing right there.

July 17, 2007  12:44 PM ET

These are the things that drive the super fan crazy. There will be no Artest trade to the Knicks. Not because Artest would not fit or get into trouble. It because Isiah will not trade Lee or Balkman for Artest, it???s not going to happen. I know people like consider Isiah stupid, and that???s fine, but it will not happen.

Further, with the play of the draft picks Nichols and Chandler, I do not want the trade them either. I don???t think I would even trade Morris.

I think other teams would give more. However, the best today would be a bad contract and next years first. The Knicks do not need a draft pick next year, they have plenty of young players. When was the last time you could say that about the Knicks?

With the improvements of the young player, another reason not the get Artest is the reduction in playing time for Lee, Balkman and the other young players.

Sacramento and or the media should start these rumors about another team. This deal should not happen. 30 days ago, I wanted Artest to, but not anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 17, 2007  12:59 PM ET

This isn't really a rumor, just Artest changing his mind again. Still though, any value the King's can get outa him is a good deal.

July 17, 2007  01:15 PM ET

Artest has talent, but brings too much certainty that he will eventually hurt and embarass the organization. As a fellow St John's alum I am ashamed he went to my school. I really think he should be getting serious professional mental medical care...of course that'll never happen as long as he can defend the other team's top scorer.

July 17, 2007  01:20 PM ET

I think Artest should go to the LAKERS!!! Deep down inside, the GUY wants to win. He will with the LAKERS!!! Both Artest and the LAKERS would really benefit!

July 17, 2007  01:23 PM ET

Ron Artest really wasn't used in the kings offense. But they need pf or a center and the Knicks have plenty of that and possible picks. A deal can be worked out with the Knicks without trading balkman. But you don't really need Balkman if you got Artest and you don't need lee if you've got Randolpn only so many minutes to go around. To not trade them is only gonna cause porblems Artest wants minutes. You don't play artest minutes or run the offense through him he gets pretty pissy. And your gonna have a meltdown. I don't think trading Artest in his current condition would be smart.

July 17, 2007  01:31 PM ET

The addition of Artest makes an immediate impact on the Knicks. Especially on the defensive end where the Knicks have plenty of issues. Lee has become the most popular Knick, but I'd do a deal for him. You gotta give up talent to get back talent. Lee and Jeffries for Artest. We still get to keep Balkman who is the same type of energy player as Lee. As weak as the Eastern Conference is the Knicks would easily make noise in the playoffs with this line up.

PG-Marbury SG-Richardson SF-Artest PF-Randolf C-Curry
On the bench, PG-Collins/Robinson SG-Crawford/Nichols SF-Balkman/Chandler PF/C-Morris

This is a better roster than the reigning Eastern Conference Champs!!!

I think what people are missing in this story is this.... "he reopened the door to exercising his opt-out clause after the 2007-08 season."
How in the world does this man have an opt-out clause in his contract?! Did Sacramento pay any attention at all to what happened over the course of his career, or did Indiana actually have it in his deal with them?! Sacto certainly didn't owe him anything when they got him.

I have known Spartak Olga biblically.

July 17, 2007  02:24 PM ET

I'm glad dlennon stated what has been obvious to me for years. Artest needs serious medical help. He exhibits prototypical bi-polar disorder behavior and he has obvious anger management issues. I don't mean to rip on him either. I respect his game immensely, and I suspect that he is a good person most of the time. I sincerely hope he can get his head together before he self-destructs and ruins his career. Please Ron Ron, get some help.

I know it was the summer league, and the kids were not playing the NBA???s best. But Nichols, Chandler and Morris are all shooting 50% from the field and these shoots (especially Nichols) were not dunks. Lee is not great obviously, but Lee can see the ball coming off the rim quicker and better then most. Balkman is Balkman! Morris is slow a foot, but has a very good 12 footer and postup game.

At this point, the best you will get from me is the unknown, next years first. To add to that the kids all try to play defense.

The Knicks are a payoff team. The only question is how long will it be to start playing team basketball, and how well will they share the ball.

July 17, 2007  03:41 PM ET

Most important thing... knicks cant keep all their players and keep their draft picks, there is not enough room on the roster. A trade is gonna happen of some sort it may not be as high profile as this but the knicks will be doing some deal before the season opens.
I hope they keep the picks as we need a shooter in Nichols, and Chandler has lots of potential due to his physique. Although there is a rumour Nichols could play abroad and come back to the knicks next year.

July 17, 2007  04:56 PM ET

Artest would be great for the knicks. That is the main position that they need to address SF. Give up some of those small guards (i.e crawford, robinson, richardson) to make a trade and they have a well rounded team. And with curry, randolph, artest they would have the biggest and strongest frontcourt in the east easily making them contenders in the WEAK atlantic division. Might as well take a chance on him ya been sorry all these years anyway. A move like this could redeem Isaiah's past follies

July 17, 2007  05:27 PM ET

David Lee is one of Isiah's better moves. He'll wear the dunce cap again if he trades Lee for Artest and Ron doesn't live up to (good) expectations.

When you say follies, what are you referring? When Isiah took over the Knicks. The starting line-up was C Ward, Shannon Anderson, Weatherspoon, Van Horn and K Thomas judging by talent the knicks were last at every position and no bench!!!

Today it???s Curry, Randolph, Jefferies, Crawford and Marberry and a huge bench. I call that moving in the right direction. What follies are you talking about?

The Knicks today are a playoff team.

Isiah has is the Knick will not trade LEE or Balkman an artest deal.

July 17, 2007  05:46 PM ET

Isiah has said the Knick will not trade LEE or Balkman an artest deal

July 17, 2007  06:18 PM ET

ISAIAHS FOLLIES:
1. Granted the team was sorry when Isaiah took over, he would go on to put together the highest paying franchise in the league and still not make the playoffs.

2. Bringing Steve Francis to play with Marbury (what was he thinkin), hes lucky they got out of having to pay off his contract

3. The trade for Eddy Curry, not because hes an underachiever but because they end up losing 2 draft picks in this years draft, and they picked up antonio davis another veteran contract they had to pay on while getting nothing in return from the player

4. The trade for Eddy Curry - because he is an underachiever, this is a maybe though cause he still has time to get it together

5. Hiring Larry Brown - Larry brown is an overratetd coach and they end up paying him more money. I lost respect for the knicks for what they did to don chaney, he had a better record in his first couple yrs with the knicks than larry brown and he was the one who had the sorry team

i could go on but im tired of typing
