In addition to trying for Randy Moss, the Broncos had chances to trade for Carolina defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and Eagles running back Ryan Moats on draft weekend but declined to pursue the deals.

The Broncos had the worst draft this year in my opinion. Trading up to get two players that both have character issues, and that they could've gotten anyway by just staying put. Horrible draft Shannahan...

May 1, 2007  01:31 PM ET

I was EXTEMELY disappointed on the broncos picks this year. They could have stayed at their pick and got Jarvis Moss (Problematic Character Issues) but chose to give away two additional picks to move up 4 spots, maybe shanahan is going crazy. I do not see these picks helping AT ALL. What a waste of a draft. I guess their is always next year!!!

I think Denver had a GREAT draft. They added posistions of need and there is no guarantee that Moss would have been there at 21. Jax, TN and NYG were all interested in him. As for Thomas, he may well have been the best (football talent wise) DT in this draft. Its not like he was accused of **** and being in possession of a BUNCH of extasy pills (ala Eric Wright ), shooting a gun at someone (Merriwether...who also stomped on another player's head in college) or sexually assaulting his girlfriend (Lynch). He smoked some pot and missed a curfew. Meyer made him an example. The guy has said he'd give back all money if he **** up and THAT will be in his contract. He may be the steal of the draft. And Crowder was a steal as well.

I think donkies had a GREAT draft. If you followed Denver's cap numbers, they couldn't afford to many draft picks or salaries. They traded their picks to concentrate on who they wanted and ensured it happened that way. Shanahan's a gambler and I love it. Jarvis has skills, Crowder has passion and Thomas was a steal if he can straighten out. I'd make that trade/risk anyday. STOP Questioning Shanahan! Did you guys forget about the Henry, Bly, Graham trades! Are you kidding me? GO Broncos!

May 1, 2007  03:04 PM ET

If they hadn't spent so much money on a tight end who's quarterback simply made him look good, the Broncs wouldn't be in cap trouble going into the draft

May 1, 2007  04:14 PM ET

Come on guys, remember how bad the pass rush was last year? Yeah, i don't either because there wasn't any. Give these guys one year and see what happens. Remember, Denver has one of the best (talent wise) defenses in the game and this can only make them better. However, Rod Smith is 78 years old now and isn't there a need for someone other than Walker to catch the ball?

May 1, 2007  05:43 PM ET

Hey there, Pats fan who doesn't know what's happening, a couple of things:

1. The Broncos aren't in cap trouble, and...

2. What is the deal with you guys? He's there, you love him. He leaves, oh, Brady made him look good.

It's funny. I remember when the Pats sucked and all their sunshine fans were more worried about the Sawks. That was, let's see...hmm...oh, right, the first 4 decades of their existence.

May 1, 2007  05:46 PM ET

Denver need one thing in this darft. Depth on the D-Line.They got that and then some. All players were National Champions and they will add to an already Pro-Bowl Defense. Remember Champ, Bly in coverage. Lynch In the Box, and The BEST LB's in the game. The D-Line can pin their ears back and go get the QB!! Great Draft!

May 1, 2007  05:59 PM ET

I don't think the broncos did good in the draft this year. They had two great trades lined up and they didn't take them. Then i don;t think Jarvis moss is the right first pick.

May 1, 2007  06:18 PM ET

I think the Broncos had a mediocre draft. Trading up to get Moss was extremely suspect, given that he would have been there at 21. Tim Crowder is a boom/bust kind of pick, but somewhat disappointing considering the Ryan Kalil was still on the board at #56. He's much like Tommy Nalen, who will be retiring in the next year or two; would've been nice to groom his replacement. I like the Ryan Harris pick. He will definitely contribute this season and probably be a starter by 2008. Marcus Thomas was a great deal in the 4th round; even though I thought giving up a #3 in 08 was a bit pricy (considering NE got Randy Moss for a #4!). But remember the character questions about Warren Sapp? This guy is strikingly similar. All in all, I have to give Denver a B. I can't give any team that only has 4 picks any higher than that...

May 1, 2007  06:25 PM ET

Denver will have done well with this draft depending on whether or not Moss and Thomas can stay out of trouble. They're both fantastic athletes who play with intense aggression. I don't know enough about Tim Crowder to make a claim just yet, but as lawdog93 mentioned, the team is filling a serious need, a.k.a. defensive line at a few positions. I am a little worried about Moss weighing only 250 pounds. I assume they'll beef him up, but he'll need to gain strength so he doesn't lose too much speed, which is one of his key attributes.

May 1, 2007  07:02 PM ET

I think getting Moss was a great move for the Broncos, if for no other reason than his last name is Moss. Think about it... Randy Moss, Santana Moss, Zefros Moss (Offensive lineman for the Colts until 1999), Winston Moss (LB for the Saints and now an assistant coach for the Packers), Tony Moss (Editor for the Sports Network), and Juliet Moss (Women's Water Polo player for San Jose State)! When it comes to Moss, Shanahan has always said "Moss grows fat on a rolling stone." Keep rollin' Broncs!

Re: Broncos' draft
It is wonderful when you can use a word or phrase, such as "character issues" and then shut off your brain and take a snooze. Not having to consider all the pertinent facts also makes criticism so easy, too!
The "character issues" behind Moss and Thomas are utterly different from those of the Pat's Merriweather and others. And from what I recently read, the Broncos had the lowest cap space of all 32 teams - a mere $2 milllion.
Ergo, you can't take a shotgun approach. Based on needs, and the D-line was the Broncos' number one need, unquestionably, and resources, I think the Broncos had a great draft. Two absolutely top athletes, one with a medical mistake, one with benign misjudgement, who otherwise would have been at the top of the draft. I am excited!

May 1, 2007  11:31 PM ET

D. Veal will start at D-tackle next to Warren and be way more productive then Myers or Warren. What they needed was DE who could provide depth and pressure on the QB.Moss will do that and the current starters we have will have great seasons because of more or better depth.Thomas will be added depth in the middle.Veal and warren will hold down the middle. And I think the DB's will be better as well even without D. Williams although with three killer corners we would have been unbeatable.

May 2, 2007  10:16 AM ET

come on guys, we needed a pass rush, i rather worried about character issue then worried about not sacking the quarterback. plus everybody deserve a second chance, that why god made a eraser, so get off your high horse and be glad we have people you can pass the quarterback!

May 2, 2007  11:42 AM ET

go get Ricky Williams Shanahan and he have your 2000 yard back...

May 2, 2007  01:38 PM ET

They didn't need to take Kalil, they have Nalen's replacement in last year's 7th round pick Greg Eislinger who won the Outland Trophy at MN. They don't need Ricky either, Henry is much better at this point in time.

They needed a pass rush and they had limited cap space to do so. good draft!

May 2, 2007  03:37 PM ET

Broncos dominated the Draft. they saw the problems they needed to solve. if you are a broncos fan and you dis the draft they had you are a f in **** and u will burn in ****. The broncos rule, superbowl bound, raiders suck, chiefs suck, chargers suck x2, peace out
