07:49 AM ET 01.19 | According to NESN baseball analyst Peter Gammons, the Red Sox had agreed with Jason Bay in late July on a new four-year extension for the All-Star, but the subsequent disagreement about the diagnosis of Bay's knee issues stood in the way of the deal getting signed.

If it's an arthritic condition like the one Carlos Beltran has in New York I don't blame the Sox for being leary.........arthritic knees don't get better, they just get progressively worse. But you would think the Mets would know that?????

WAY TO GO METS!!!

Let me see if I get this right - his knees were too bad for the Sox but $66M for 4 years fine for the Mets?

OY!

Fantastic shart photo. So subtle, the way they caught his reaction in mid-stride. This image lifts my spirit and disgusts me at the same time.

There must be something to this. The Cardinals were very interested in Bay a few years ago, but they refused to consider him this year.

I've heard the Mets don't sign you unless you're an injury risk ... ask Boras ...

True, but usually they only signed injured or washed up Latino players. Nice to see Los Mets branching out.

First it was his shoulder, now it's his knees. Dudes a wreck.

Sounds like he'll be DHing in a couple years. Oh wait, their's no DH in the NL. Nice move by the Mets.

Couldn't happen in a better uniform.

Gotta have a couple pasty dudes on the team. Diversity is all the rage nowadays.

This wouldn't be the first time the Sox have bad mouthed someone as they left town to explain not signing them. I guess only time will tell.
