Nets' failed 3-team blockbuster

The Nets' summer makeover came close to being far more drastic. According to multiple league sources, the Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte.

Thank you Nets for not making this trade work. Chalotte guy form Durham,NC! Shout out to WOCC!

July 20, 2007  07:07 AM ET

What else were the Bobcats gonna get???? No way in the world you swap Wallace for Jefferson! PERIOD!!!

July 20, 2007  07:26 AM ET

That can't be true. I don't think any team would help themselves in that deal.

July 20, 2007  08:58 AM ET

stupid trade!!! who would the lakers have at PF???

July 20, 2007  09:07 AM ET

I am glad this trade didnt go down because Lamar is a better fit in the laker line-up then either Jefferson or Wallace. All three will probably be in the same spot the start on next year. Keep Lamar at PF and concentrate on finding a center and getting rid of Kwame's lazy ****!!!

July 20, 2007  09:26 AM ET

as a nets fan im glad the nets didnt take this trade
nets need a defensive presence (shot blocker)
in order to give other teams a 2nd thought to driving in to the hoop
odom definitely cannot fill that void

the only trade nets should take is the jermaine o'neal trade

July 20, 2007  09:35 AM ET

So basically the Nets are trading Richard Jefferson for Lamar Odom??? That would have been a TERRIBLE trade for the Nets. Man I wish they would have pulled that one off.

July 20, 2007  09:50 AM ET

who cares...they are all bums

July 20, 2007  09:54 AM ET

NJ Nets, the jermaine o'neal trade is a lateral trade, meaning there is no gain for either side. We just helped ourselves by getting Jamaal Magloire, who, although he had a terrible season last year, is still an all star in good form. You know that hes going to produce, simply because A:he's glad to gett out of Portland and B: he's playing with JKidd and Vinsanity who will both free him up for open dunks and easy buckets. Expect for him to produce a double double night in night out with 13 ppg.

July 20, 2007  09:56 AM ET

Jermaine O'Neal is overrated and not nearly as good as his salary suggests.

July 20, 2007  10:45 AM ET

I'm glad as a Nets fan this trade didn't go down, the only way it would've worked in the Nets favor is if Gerald Wallace came to Jersey. Lamar odom?

July 20, 2007  11:13 AM ET

that would have been bad for the lakers, because then they'd have no power forward at all and then resigning luke walton would have been stupid. this is a curious move by lakers management

July 20, 2007  11:18 AM ET

JAMAL MAGLOIRE IS A BUM. his career average is like 9ppg and 7rpg. his best year ever he got 13 and 10 and the only reason he was an all star was because of how weak the east was at C. to me, 13 and 10 are not all star numbers. and please everyone stop referring to carter as "Vinsanity", he lost that title along with his respect when he openly quit on the toronto raptors.

July 20, 2007  12:05 PM ET

This is probably the stupidest trade I've seen on here! I don't see any one of these teams benefiting from this move. All these player's have similar credentials and attributes. Odom at least is a triple-double threat, and constant double-double producer. Nobody would have really improved. I look at Lamar as more of a 3 than a 4, although he can play 4. Lakers need a strong down low presence. Whoop dee do we resigned Mihm, he is a good back-up center, I have never believed he was a starter. He can't compete with the studs out in the west, but he would probably be a top guy in the east.

July 20, 2007  12:14 PM ET

stuy-Your just an angry canadian.

AO-Mihm used to play in the east, and was a backup there as well. He's a backup at best.

July 20, 2007  12:29 PM ET

That's got to be the dumbest Laker Trade of all time. Say what you want about Odom. But what can Gerald Wallace give them. I know people don't respect Fantasy numbers. But Odom is one of the all around go getters. And has high value that has to translate into something. Sure he may not be a great scorer but you need someone like him to win championships. The laker need to add talent not lose it.
Side Bar
Why doesn't anyone trade for Ginobolly.

July 20, 2007  12:29 PM ET

this would've been bad for the lakers.

July 20, 2007  12:30 PM ET

Trade would have helped the nets the least. I can see why they didn't do it. It wouldn't have made them better so what would have been the point. Odom is one of the more overrated players in the league.

July 20, 2007  12:32 PM ET

Magloire is a solid player. Granted not an allstar, but a bum?! That's way harsh. Remember Chris Dudley, Manute Bol? Those were bums.

July 20, 2007  12:35 PM ET

J-Kidd would've welcomed Lamar with open arms. Jefferson is inconsistent and has limited skills compared with Odom.

Wallace is just a big fish in a small pond in Charlotte. But since the Lakers considered him at all, Kobe surely approved of the proposed deal.

Does Jefferson get paid less than Wallace? That's the only logical explanation why the cheap and stingy Bobcats would want to trade the recently re-signed Gerald.
