It's surprising that he didn't sign for the Heat. Houston is a good team, but Francis isn't likely to make it better than Dallas or San Antonio.

July 20, 2007  08:58 AM ET

I guess that makes sense for him since his home is in Houston and he is familiar with the team and the city. Steve Blake, another former Maryland star did the same thing.

I hope he recovers from injury and takes the team to the next level, although I don't completly understand this deal since they already have a log-jam at PG.

An even better team in the tough west...Great!! Good for him but bad for teams trying to crack the top 8 in the west.

July 20, 2007  09:12 AM ET

lol... looks like another first round exit for the rockets - if they even make the playoffs (which they should). given mr. francis' previous attitude in other situations i would be surprised if there isn't some conflict between alston and james which leads to some internal team problems (i remember alston in toronto) - unless they decide to part with someone. also won't it be hard to balance minutes between the three? and even if they're on the court at the same time 'ball-hogging' might be an issue? any thoughts?

July 20, 2007  09:23 AM ET

i think the rockets have a chance at the finals this year
their starting line up can look like this...
PG-Francis
SG-McGrady
SF-Battier
PF-Scola
C-Yao
also their bench is VERY deep
alston(if hes not traded)
james
brooks
head
wells

July 20, 2007  09:38 AM ET

is that starting line-up suppose to be impressive?
gotta love people jumping on the rockets bandwagon because they got francis who used to be good like 5 years ago and is **** terrible now. im pretty sure Scola has never played a single game in the NBA yet let's pencil him in the starting line-up and get overly excited because you heard someone on ESPN say "this kid has NBA talent" once. ya VERY deep bench is right, but when you consider they have 4 PG's its not looking so deep anymore is it. as if u mentioned bonzi wells on that list too, he's the type of player to take a team to the next level. so that leaves the rockets with mcgrady who will surely miss half the season again with back spasms, battier who is a solid role player, and of course yao who does what he does very well. chance at the finals...latrell spreewell has a better chance of getting signed to a max deal than the rockets making the finals.

July 20, 2007  09:49 AM ET

None of those players would start on the Suns, Mavericks or Spurs...

July 20, 2007  09:50 AM ET

I take that back,
T-Mac

July 20, 2007  09:52 AM ET

Francis will demand Houston trade Yao and T-Mac to the Clipps for his tag team partner Cutino Mobley

July 20, 2007  09:53 AM ET

He didn't leave any money on the table. He got $30 mil for never introducing himself to Greg Oden! Houston can comfort themselves with the fact that this went so well the first time he was there... oh, wait...

July 20, 2007  10:04 AM ET

Could the starting lineup be:
pg-Francis
sg-Wells(adelman could fix him up)
sf-McGrady
pf-Battier(undersized, but solid D, and would stretch the D with his 3's)
c-Yao

Which pg are they going to trade? Alston or James?

July 20, 2007  10:10 AM ET

The Rockets will be a team that everyone will be looking at from the get go. The PG jam will be worked out within the next week to 10 days. They will be getting something worked out. We see it so they see it. Sorry Rafer but the door is wide open for you and your pals Sura and JL3. Yao and T-Mac called Francis to come home because they know he can big a big part of this team. He might not be the player he once was. But after 3 years of playing with the teams and how he played. He will be the player that wants to win. This team is going to be a contender so sit back and enjoy.

July 20, 2007  11:28 AM ET

i think he could of made a bigger impact in another team..... here he wont be starting and will probably be a 6th man or even 7th!!!!!!!!!!

July 20, 2007  11:47 AM ET

Francis won't be a good fit in a team led by Adelman. Mark my words.

July 20, 2007  11:53 AM ET

he's not gonna make them that much better. for one, he's not a good PG, in fact i bet he takes shots away from T-Mac so T-Mac's numbers are gonna go down next year. secondly, he's no longer a good player anymore.

July 20, 2007  12:31 PM ET

Chargernation exactly.

July 20, 2007  12:51 PM ET

So $2.4 mil is a the going rate for a benchwarmer these days? If he starts he will be destructive. If he doesn't start he will be disruptive. Whether by playing or sulking his way there, Franchise will be holding down the end of the pine 1/4 of the way into the season.

July 20, 2007  12:54 PM ET

figures it was van gundy who forced him out of town...

July 20, 2007  12:57 PM ET

For all the baggages Francis brings, he might be the help T-Mac needs in clutch situations to get past the first round of the playoffs.

Francis will certainly not be T-Mac's Pippen. But he may just give that needed assertiveness and may offer as a viable scoring option during clutch time. After having that long stretch of not getting past the 1st round, T-Mac's problem seems to be more mental than physical. More of mindset than talent.

Well said stuyp. Francis is a good basketball player but has yet to prove that he is a good teammate I don't seem him making a positive impact on the Rockets all i see him doing is pounding the rock and depriving shots from T-Mac and Yao.
