This week, Bucks team officials said they had no imminent plans to send general manager Larry Harris to China to negotiate a deal for Yi Jianlian. But in interviews with Chinese businessmen, U.S. businessmen in China and local leaders who are following the matter, the consensus is that Harris needs to get on a plane to China. And soon.

WHY SHOULD THE BUCKS SPEAK WITH ANY1...... HE IS A UNPROVEN ROOKIE WITHOUT A NBA FRAME. LET HIM STAY WHERE HE IS....NEXT YEAR BET HE SINGS A DIFFERENT TOON......

July 21, 2007  12:58 PM ET

I say, make it a slow boat to China, and, I agree with RUFF5...let him stay there.

July 21, 2007  08:20 PM ET

Yi and whoever represents him are definitely showing lack of professionalism. You get drafted, you come and play, you commit to your team, your coaches, teammates and fan whoever they are, that is what I beleive to be pro basketball.
Yi should leave the NBA alone, he is not ready.

July 21, 2007  08:28 PM ET

If the NBA gets to a point where unproven rookies gets to choose where they want to play guess I'll stop watching it.
That would mean americans players refusing to play for any team other than their native town and foreign players only accepting to play where there is a strong community from their native country....ridiculous!!!!!!!
David Stern.... you need to step up!!!!!!!

I already hate the guy. He's NOT welcome in Milwaukee. What a waste of a pick. Should have had Brewer. Esp with the resigning of Mo Williams.

Go to china and throw a cheeseburger at him.All that rice is pan frying his brain!Maybe then he'll man up!!Or ban him for life.

July 22, 2007  12:47 AM ET

Yeah, it's very unfair to the Bucks who f'ed up their draft by picking this guy. Bucks should just trade this guy to Golden State and move on....

July 22, 2007  12:04 PM ET

The Bucks were stupid to pick him but what kind of ego does this guy have? Don't be an Eli Manning, Be honored to be playing in a league that is for the elite in their sport. Instead, teams that are trying to get better do not get a choice who they pick. Why don't we have the players pick the teams instead of the other way around?? All pathetic thug millinaires!!!

July 23, 2007  01:54 AM ET

I agree. I don't think there's ever been a new rookie who has officially protested his draft pick. Even great players who were drafted by small-franchise places, like David Robinson, Karl Malone, and others, accepted their venues and went on to make the place better because of their success.

David Stern should make it clear to Li and his henchmen that they either accept Milwaukee, or that Li is banned from playing in the NBA for 5 years.

An official rule to enforce this issue should then be instated, so that no new rookie ever pulls this type of stunt again.

The draft is a _league-wide_ jurisdiction, and a player entering the draft inherently agrees to play wherever the draft takes him.

When a player becomes a free agent, or enters the league through another means, then the jurisdiction may fall on specific teams that have an interest in the player (and vice versa), but that's a different situation from the draft.

Besides, if Li were such a good player, then the Asian population from the big city of Chicago would make the hour-long drive to see him play in Milwaukee. After all, when Sacramento was playing well a few years ago, many Bay Area fans made the two-hour trip to see the Kings play.

Good point Jay.

Clearly Yi is an unproven brat. I'm sure people will be tuning in all over the world and buying tickets galore to watch Yi go up against the opposing team's best folding chair for 82 games.

This guy is not even worth talking about
