Aggies coach on hot seat?

Posted: Monday July 23, 2007 10:50AM ET

Coming off a 45-10 loss to California in the Holiday Bowl, Dennis Franchione enters his fifth season at Texas A&M with a 25-22 record. Home losses last year against Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Nebraska will give the Aggies motivation for those games -- on the road -- this season. If Franchione can leave home and beat Miami (Fla.), Missouri, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Nebraska, he will have earned the trust of the A&M faithful. Otherwise, athletic director Bill Byrne, who did not hire Franchione, may be looking to hire his own man.

It's Not!

Maybe he can go back and coach at Alabama. I'm sure they'll take him back.

Of course he's on the hotseat. He's barely over .500 and has had 2 winning seasons at A&M while getting absolutely murdered in the 2 bowl games into which he's gotten A&M. Yeah, the Big 12 is a tough conference, but his performance just isn't going to cut it.

I have to agree with BeardGuy, he's on the hot seat! I live here in Bryan/College Station and the Aggie Fans are pretty patient but, we don't like loosing. The focus this off season was more on coach Gillispie than coach Fran becouse of the outstanding job he was doing with our basketball team. However, I think that brought out even more pressure on coach Fran becouse of the excitement that went into our basketball season. I think fans want to see the same for our Football program. I think this is his make or break year. Go Aggies!!!

Aggies got just what they deserve - "coach" Fran, the travelin' man!
Francione's only loyalty is to his wallet - ask New Mexico, TCU and
Alabama! A perfect marriage: a jerk coach for a jerk school.

He needs to be on the hot seat. Yeah I know they are behind Texas and Oklahoma but that still doesn't mean he can't put together a 9 win regular season. Just get to 9 Fran, just get to 9.

This one deserves an 'Obvious' award.

I think EJ's right. Nine seemed to be the number for RC. It bought him time and goodwill.

If they keep printing this story ever year, they may get it right one day.

Coach Fran is getting exactly what he deserves.

I will remind you that he took the Bama job ( which was a huge step up for him ) at a time when everyone knew Alabama was going on probation.

He spent two years literally begging all the juniors and seniors to stay with the program once probation hit even though they could have transfered without sitting out a year... His argued that in life, sometimes we must put our own personal needs aside and make sacrifices for the greater good. In this case, the Alabama program NEEDED stability and NEEDED those juniors and seniors to stay and make a difference. The fans and the school needed them.

Then, after our last game of the season... he boarded a jet for College Station without even saying goodbye to his coaches or players... he literally called from the airplane and told his defensive coordinator to explain his departure to the players...

Coach Francione is a selfish jack ****. He used Bama for it's name recognition and took the job knowing he would leave in a couple of years before the sanctions kicked in. Right at a time we needed him most.

The irony is every single young man on the Alabama football team bought into his plea to stay... the only person that deserted the ship was Francione.... and he did so without even saying goodbye to the very players he used and then deserted.

It's not about some crybaby story about 'deserving to have a **** record.' It's about him not getting the job done at College Station. Lets face it, no 10 win seasons, barely over .500, 0-2 in bowl games (outscored like 76-17 in those two games, too), routinely loses to in state rivals...yep, he's doing every he possibly can to get himself fired.

Report Offensive Comment

This is exactly what he deserves! He should have been fired two seasons ago. I still can't believe he left BAMA for A&M after telling /actually
begging the seniors and juniors to stick around and be the foundation for the future of BAMA football during the pending NCAA sanctions. I guess it's that old cliche "carma is a mutha******!!!"

What I am saying Beardguy is given his selfishness and ineptitude, he is getting exactly what is coming to him...

A&M deserves a better coach and a better person at the helm.

There will be a party in Tuscaloosa when this louse get's what he so richly deserves.

I'd always rather liked AnM, played stout defense, loved that thing that Sherrill did calling cats out of the stands for the "suicide squad" on kickoffs. Hate to see them get shafted by this creep.

You might be thrilled to see him get his comeuppance, but keep in mind he wouldn't be on the hot seat if he were doing a decent job. Moreover, if he's doing a crappy job at A&M, how much better would he have been at 'Bama? Yeah, I get that you're mad that he bolted (and you should be), but you're probably better off now than you would have been if he had stayed at 'Bama, given his performance at A&M.

My mother told me that they don't like "Eye-talians" out there in Texas.

"Eye-ties" they call 'em.

That ain't right, is it?

And tell me: can you trust your car to the man who wears the star?

And what if that doesn't happen? They could win more games this year and next and he gets an extension.

I wish they had kept that also, instead of bringing it down to 2or 3 players that rotate in. They had some great stats for walk ons. I'm not sure if they ever allowed a td.

I've always thought this college epitomized the state of texas more than UT, spoiled braindead rednecks and military pricks, so long live Francionne, more failure and mediocrity from the aggies please

Daftpfnk,

I respect your comments since, we Aggie Fans don't lower our selves to make degrading comments. Have you ever been to A&M?? That's the perception a lot of people have about A&M. But, your are far from the thruth, the redneck era is gonne. Come visit us sometimes, maybe next time you'll make a more informed comment.

I think its going to get harder for TAMU to get rid of Coach Fran after this season due to the distance that their going to go.. Wherever TAMU goes this season is going to be b/c of the players not of the coaches. TAMU just might upset UT and OU for the BIg 12 south title. BRING BACK R.C. Slocum

As it turns out, Francione will be remembered as an average coach and a below average individual. He has made some very bad decisions in recent years and may someday regret ever leaving Alabama for A&M....

If interested, read my blog on him which was posted recently.
