First-year coach Randy Shannon said he expects Miami, 7-6 last season, to not only win its first conference title, but to win every game. Shannon has stripped the names from the back of this season's uniforms in an effort to continue his ''team-first'' theme.

Great hire by The U. And to think he was their 2nd choice.

Removing the names from the jerseys is a shrewd move.

I wish every team would do that.

Can you give me any make-up tips?

July 24, 2007  10:17 AM ET

Shannon is a bad ****. The Canes are lucky he said yes to them in spite of their pursuit of other coaches. The U is back!

July 24, 2007  12:41 PM ET

The ACC is so pathetic, whoever doesn't win either division should have a new coach in 2008.

July 24, 2007  01:03 PM ET

This was a great hire for the U. If he was expecting anything less than an ACC Title, it would have been a bad hire!

July 24, 2007  01:10 PM ET

Man I wish more teams would remove the names from the back of the uniform. I can't believe I'm applauded a move made my Miami, but I am!

July 24, 2007  01:46 PM ET

the acc is pathetic? now that they added miami and va tech, they are the only conference that has a chance to compete with the sec for the best confference in the years to come.

July 24, 2007  02:56 PM ET

Don't leave out BC and Clemson

July 24, 2007  02:57 PM ET

And what's the harm in players names on their jerseys?

July 24, 2007  03:23 PM ET

If there is not a name on the jersey, it forces you to make plays on the field every week so someone can remember who you are instead of reading the jersey. It's a head game he is playing with them.

July 24, 2007  03:27 PM ET

Uhhhh, let's not get crazy about the ACC just yet. BC and Va-Tech was supposed to make the ACC some powerhouse and ruin the Big East.

If we remember last season, the Big East was MUCH better than the ACC. The ACC should be better this season, but so is the Big East.

July 24, 2007  03:52 PM ET

I understand the reasoning laclipss1, but I still don't see the harm in having names on the uni's.

July 24, 2007  03:53 PM ET

The ACC had a down year last year in terms of their big programs...look for that to change! This year will be a little better and will only get better from there. Just look at the recruiting already by the ACC this year alone.

July 24, 2007  03:53 PM ET

The Big East has gotten a-lot better but let's see how they do this year. One year can't tell you much but I expect them to come out flying this year. I don't know if they have picked up big out of conference games though. As for shannon, he is a great coach. He demands respect from the Canes and he promotes team unity along with a No-tolerence policy. If you get in trouble especially legal trouble you are either kicked off the team or sit out a year. This is a man who will back up his word unlike Coker. GO CANES 07'

The ACC had a veery down year last season. The ACC always has been and always will be a basketball conference with football teams.

Last season the conference was PATHETIC. Who won it last year anyway, Wake Forest? G.Tech? Nothing against those programs, but when they are winning conference titles, the conference is down.

Talent wise, no team should beat Miami or FSU in the ACC. Coaching wise, BC, and V. Tech earn there way to the top. The remainder of the conference is basketball schools playing football.

I don't think the ACC will be nearly as weak as they were last season. They will be competitive, and if Maimi and FSU show up like the Miami and FSU of old tehy'll be fine as a conference. Another bad year and the ACC might be fighting for it's BCS lives, not the Big East

July 25, 2007  01:00 PM ET

I'd love to see the Big East match wits from top to bottom of the conference with say, the Big Ten or ACC. There is no way they would win head to head matchups with either conference.

Well I wasnt going to get involved in this, then I saw this foolishly ignorant comment. The Pac 10 is the only conference that will compete with the SEC. The ACC is a washed up joke, not even worth BCS status. Relegate the patheticism of the league back to the likes of the WAC and MAC!
