Howie Long's son in demand
Charlottesville (Va.) St. Anne's-Belfield offensive tackle/defensive end Kyle Long is not only trying to decide which school he'll attend, he's also trying to decide what sport he'll play. "I still don't know if I want to play football or baseball," said the 6-foot-7, 280-pound son of NFL Hall of Famer Howie Long. Long is a standout tackle and defensive end in football, drawing offers from Florida State, Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Penn State, Florida and many others.

Go with baseball. Your dad was a great player. You'll always have to live up to that. If you like baseball as much as football and are equally talented, go with baseball.

Did somebody on this board refer to "DA U" as the best program in the nation? What program and what nation are you speaking of, sir? We ALL know you are not talking about Miami! This is 2007, right? Ok, just checking. You're MAYBE a top 20 program right now, Canes' fans. You're a distant third in your state right now. Tradition doesn't mean anything in rating yourself as the best program. If tradition mattered, we'd all be speaking Italian...(reference to Roman Empire, Canes' fans!) Gimme a break!

I wonder what position the boy plays in Baseball. The article didn't address
that. I figure he will follow in his dad and brothers footsteps and play football.

No, if tradition mattered, we would be speaking Latin. No one in the Roman Empire spoke the Italian language, as it did not exist yet.

6'7'' and 280 pounds. Wow! If he chooses baseball with measurements like that, it would be a shame. He needs to play football. Maybe he can go to Villanova like his dad did (That's a joke by the way).
In seriousness, there is no place like Michigan.

He plays 1st base and pitcher. He's definitely gotta go with football though. The kid is a beast, and he'll wind up being better than his older bro who will be a 1st round pick next year.

The football/baseball combo worked out pretty well for Jeff S at ND.

It would be a bad move if he chooses baseball. Does it make sense to anyone that he has almost every football program in the nation wanting him but the only scholarship offer he has for baseball is from Florida St. and it's only a partial one. That would tell you right there that his future is in football. But anyways... Kyle follow your big brother Chris and come to UVA!

Even though I'm an avid football fan, I would say that the smart financial move would be to go baseball if you're good enough to actually make it to The Show. After all, the NFL doesn't have guaranteed contracts and does have a salary cap.
That said, I hope the kid plays football. Howie Long was one of my idols growing up.
