Strasburg project not long for the minors

07:46 AM ET 03.10 | Maybe Stephen Strasburg will rise faster than his fastball. This Strasburg development project probably isn't going to take as long as we thought. Detroit's own starter was Rick Porcello, who went 14-9 as a 20-year-old rookie last year. Though just five months younger than Strasburg, the stellar Porcello was much less filled out and imposing. Scouts, who came assuming the pair might look equivalent in mound presence, were stunned.

watching the highlights he reminded me of mark prior in his rookie season.

That just makes sense.

Don't rush this kid. There have been way too many phenoms who have ended their careers early because of injury due to not being handled carefully enough. This kid can be something special but just give him some time.

The Nationals might be tempted to rush him to the majors simply to put more butts in the seats, but they shouldn't. It's not like they are one or two players away from contending. A lot of work needs to be done before the Nationals are even close to contending.

I agree...they gotta ge their feet wet at some point

its too bad this dude's name isn't Alan Parsons....would make for a killer headline!

March 10, 2010  08:22 AM ET

From all the publicity this kid gets before even throwing a pitch in any league is screaming bust. I'd like to see him be successful, especially because he's a National and even though they contend within the division of my favorite team, I always like to see franchises like this rise up. Hopefully he can keep his focus where it needs to be and become the dominant force he's hyped up so badly to be.

yes because then the Nationals would be starting up their own Alan Parsons Project. hahahaha

I think before rushing this pitcher to the big leagues, they should focus on other things, like making sure their team name is spelled properly on their jerseys. It's the little things at times that need the attention.

Agreed...don't rush this one to the majors ala Mark Prior or Kerry Wood with the Cubs...no need to risk a major injury at this stage of his career.

March 10, 2010  08:55 AM ET

The problem is the worst teams get the pick of the litter and can't afford to be patient like the Yankme's and so the kid will probably get rushed and end up hurt and lose critical years off his career.
