10:29 AM ET 03.10 | The hottest ticket in New York is for a losing franchise. In just a couple of weeks, the New York Knicks have taken deposits on 1,800 new season tickets. For those keeping score at home, that's the fastest the team has sold this many new season tickets in its storied history. Considering the team is heading for another losing season and hasn't won a playoff series in a decade, it can be assumed that all this excitement has to do with the anticipation of the free agents the team is going to sign for next season.

Or maybe they're just gluttons for expensive punishment.

March 10, 2010  10:41 AM ET

Oh boy this topic again, peace out!!

March 10, 2010  10:47 AM ET

In this economy.......you have to be either a millionaire or a freakin idiot, probably the latter

March 10, 2010  10:48 AM ET

I remember when the red seats were $8 to watch Mark Jackson, Patrick Ewing and company in 1987.

March 10, 2010  10:50 AM ET

Well, Knicks fans certainly aren't buying tickets based on results!

I thought New Yorkers were smarter than that...I guess I was wrong....

March 10, 2010  11:00 AM ET

I guess take a chance only $250/500 deposit for tickets, and with 2010-11 pricing to be determined, so IF a top FA comes get tickets, IF not lose money. Got to Wonder how many of the 1,800 are working for a ticket agent. Get payed to buy tickets for a ticket agent can resale them.

March 10, 2010  11:01 AM ET

BS story

March 10, 2010  11:20 AM ET

Taking deposits.

Most of the 1800 will request their money back when they finally figure out the Knicks will suck again next year.

Listen all you 1800 dummies, LeBron is NOT comming to NY. Put your deposit money on that.

March 10, 2010  11:20 AM ET

more proof that new yorkers will buy anything that the papers sell them...who needs facts

i bet you alot are.......they will sell those tickets for 20x the value

regardless what Lion and Hllywd post all the time....NYK's will get 2 decent players next year. And to respond to Lion's constant "what players want to play with D leagers" ?????? huh.

Dantoni runs an 8 man rotation...sure the knicks will hve to fill out the roster w/cheap players..but they will not be in the rotation and only play on garbage time. Chandler, Galo are not D-League players...I am sorry. They are not allstars and probably never will be but they are not Dleague players either.

Knicks will be back in the playoffs next year...they surely will be picking up players and improing w/out a doubt. NY has 2 much to offer for NBA players....even though he knicsk suck..they were #3 in merchandise sales last year and I am sure they will be top 3 again this year.

March 10, 2010  11:32 AM ET

This is a big BS of a story - Even the scalpers out on the outskirts of MSG / Penn Station can't get a nibble on the tickets for face value....

I stopped getting season tickets years ago and only go now when they are offered up by brokers / wholsalers my firm does business with.... - Shoot even those get turned down and they are luxury boxes.

Until the inferior product is actually better (not on the pretense that it might) I doubt if "actual" NY Knick fans will squnder any cash on their team....

you are truly deluded.. no guarantee the knicks will get anyone...they are not the only team with money or cap room..merchadise sale only indictates what idiots you all are..

March 10, 2010  11:35 AM ET

That right, 1800 season tickets at a limit of 6 per holder

In MILW for Miley / Hannah Montana, you need to show the Credit Card you brought the tickets with at the Door, to cut out scalpers

Man we had that same problem here..when the tickets went on sale the ticket brokers had bought most of them......it was like that with the maxwell and john legend concerts here......they buy them and make a killing on them....they tried to sell us hannah montana tickets for 6000 a piece..my daughter had to miss that show

they all get the same percent ...its based on revenue spent out and such...its not like lebron gets all the money from his jersey sell..they say its pure pennies compared to what the nba makes off of it
