The group of local businessmen seeking to buy the Predators wants to have a binding agreement with owner Craig Leipold in place by mid-August. The binding agreement, which involves a significant transfer of nonrefundable money, would be considered a serious step toward purchase of the team.

Jeez, I wonder if this group is from Kansas City?

July 31, 2007  09:45 AM ET

It worked in Edmonton. Will it work in Nashville? I don't know. The difference is that Edmonton is a hockey crazy city. They live and breathe hockey. The Investor's Group had the full support on the community and civic leaders. I don't think that's the case with the Preds. But, then, they might have deeper pockets.

July 31, 2007  11:47 AM ET

The predators will suck this year anyway.

July 31, 2007  12:45 PM ET

The group making the bid has good financial backing, it's a matter of whether or not the new hopeful Nashville owners are willing to to shell out big $$$ in the long run. As of right now the Predators roster is looking pretty good. The loss of Vokoun is preferable, as Mason was proving to be a better goaltender during the stretch, Kariya was good but the Blues overpaid for him, and we still have the main core of players from last year. It'd be nice to see a big offensive center in there, but they'll be able to make due

now , i 've heard it all , the fact we signed radeck bonk ,marin gelinas, and, ortmeyer from the rangers ,you guys want to down us already . shame on you all. we have not started the season yet , actually now that i think of it tanking would help us get sold ,or, get the #1 pick ,and, we could sing the next sydney crosbey.

July 31, 2007  01:31 PM ET

Gelinas? OK. But signing Radek Bonk is nothing to brag about! Just ask any Habs fan!

July 31, 2007  02:12 PM ET

they must be making so much money elsewhere that they need a tax break...

July 31, 2007  03:32 PM ET

I wonder if Bettman is gonna step in and &^%$ up this deal too. . . . . . I hope Balsillie sue's the NHL or has it that Bettman has to leave

July 31, 2007  04:34 PM ET

Groundpounder, I said in a previous discussion about the Preds that Bettman will probably offer Balsillie an expansion franchise to appease him. I'll bet there's some backroom nonsense going on, because Balsillie has been pretty quiet.

July 31, 2007  06:48 PM ET

Hamilton is focusing on the wrong team. Moving a team from Uniondale, N.Y. to become the Hamilton Fishsticks is the only smart move. Let me hear it from the Canadian fans now: "WE WANT FISHSTICKS!" Show the lowly Isles your love.

July 31, 2007  08:02 PM ET

or perhaps send the Av's back to Quebec . . . . . . yeah ! LOL

July 31, 2007  10:52 PM ET

Hey the fans from Nashville showed up, it was the business community which refused to invest in a product which lost it's whole season, TV contracts and any source of revenue. You wouldn't run your business this way, why would you expect the business world to invest in this ****.

August 1, 2007  12:04 AM ET

WHAT THE F*&K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 1, 2007  01:06 PM ET

I do not think the Isles will leave the Island, I mean they are guarenteed at least three over flow crowds with the blue shirts in town! Go Rangers! And then maybe the Bruins and Flyers games.

BRING BACK THE WHALE!

August 1, 2007  01:21 PM ET

Grounderpounder, Avs back to Quebec is fine, I guess, so long as New Jersey sends back the Rockies to Denver for a few years. At least that would give Kansas City time to get its building done before Denver ships the Scouts back to the BBQ city.

Besides, I live in NYC, so take the Isles and Devils, pleeeeeze.

August 1, 2007  01:26 PM ET

As I recall, some upstanding Canadian citizens SOLD their teams to American groups in Phoenix and Denver. And you would think some of the crybabies posting on the Nashville question over at the Globe and Mail site would remember that. Marcel Aubut, the great defender of the local interests, stares down the Carling O'Keefe people. But here comes Comsat. or whatever Sat that original group was, to fill Aubut's wallet when the province of Quebec chose to keep hospitals open rather than give Aubut a little welfare handout to keep the people's team in QC. How much did Aubut distribute to the people for selling their team? LOL

August 1, 2007  03:17 PM ET

Goundpounder, you have a good point about Balsillie being quiet. One would figure he'd be in an uproar right now yelling lawsuit. Yes, I would like to see some more Canadian teams but not at the price of expansion. Expansion is not the answer. It will thin out the talent pool. Look at Columbus. Bettman wants a 31st and 32nd team in the league-Kansas City and where else was it, Las Vegas or something. Who the hell in Las Vegas is going to a hockey game? Canadians should lynch Bettman for screwing up getting a team back into Canada.

August 1, 2007  05:06 PM ET

It looks like the little weasel gets his way after all huh? I just really don't understand why he wouldn't want the team in a city that would actually make money. Maybe he's afraid they find whatever is up his **** when he has to cross the boarder.

August 2, 2007  09:10 PM ET

To the Nashville fans, please support your team. If you don't say goodbye in a hurry. Just check who the 8th member of the ownership group is. Del Baggio, part owner of the Sharks, and the same guy who try to buy the Preds after Basillie, and move them to KC. I hope you can hold on to your team, but after the way it was blown up, I doubt you'll get the corporate sponsorship you need. If people didn't want to watch one of the most exciting teams last year, Del Baggio is a year, 2 max, from having a team in KC.
