07:02 AM ET 03.14 | How close is the Celtics' coach from turning into a pumpkin? Many people around the NBA are asking that exact question as the aging Celtics are continuing to show signs of just that: age. No one is denying that this version of the Celtics was build for a short burst of title runs, but the clock may be running out on Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and co. faster than anyone previously imagined. And, yes, most would say the moves were worth it for the championship the team won two years ago. But, the question is, will the Celtics front office see the writing on the wall and start making moves for the future this offseason?

there's nothing sadder than seeing KG now and remembering how he used to play just a short time ago

March 14, 2010  07:27 AM ET

They went for a Championship 2 years ago and they got it...al those moves were certainly worth it for the Celtic fans.

If I may speculate, imagine having Rondo matured as he is now, playing alongside Al Jefferson, Paul Pierce and maybe acquiring only Ray Allen; that would've been a team with short term and certainly long term potential as opposed to the team who had a three year spurt and is bound for a return to mediocrity.

Boston (if KG was healthy last year, and there was no reason to think he would not have been for at least 3 years) probably would have won back 2 back titles and been in the hunt this year to play for the Eastern Conference championship.
By the way, I AM NOT A CELTICs FAN. I really do not like Boston, but I respect them greatly.

They're still the best in the Retirement league. But yeah, they're past their expiration date. Get whatever you can for Garnett before he breaks again, same for Allen. Can't see Pierce going anywhere, even if it would benefit the future.

As all real NBA fans know, there is no short cut to success.
Like the heat did in 2006 the celtics traded younger talent to transform to win now.
They accomplished that goal and yes had K.G been healthy last year they may have repeated.
As for now they must rebuild, there best player is not Pierce any more, Rondo is.
At least they won there 17th title.
Glad that K.G finally got his ring. With an aging K.G, Allen probably moving on this summer and Pierce who is also injury prone hopefully they can add a key player to there roster.
No one wants either contract of Pierce or K.G so they are stuck with them.
Hopefully they rebuild in time for Rondo to not demand a trade, cause even though we is a championship point guard and dissed CP3 with the "Am better than you and you wish you were me, and you will never win a ring with that team" lol, I know he is aware of the team's fall from grace. He does want to be on top again and win another championship.

he is*

Don't count them out just yet - They will be dangerous in the playoffs and whoever sleeps on them will get bounced......

March 14, 2010  08:45 AM ET

KG just hasn't been the same since he dunked the ball in Utah and came down with a bad knee, who knew that dunk would be the turn of his career (appears that way).Still a tough team to beat four out of seven tries in a playoff series. Anyway, holla at me when (if) they get bounced from the playoffs, until then this is all speculation.

March 14, 2010  10:31 AM ET

the trade for ray allen would of been a good move

March 14, 2010  10:37 AM ET

When you have the opportunity to win a Championship, you go for it. The Celts did and were successful. No shame there...

100% right!!! I don't fault teams for winning a championship with short term in mind. Look at what the Marlins did in 97', they built a team to win and that's just what they did. They then dismantled the team for prospects and won it again less than 10 years later.

My favorite teams are all from Cleveland, I would give anything to see a championship. Right now I could care less about a dynasty, I just want to feel what it's like to support a champion?

Celtics Vs Cavs tonight at 3:30pm on abc tune in to see if the Celtics can prove they are still up among the elite teams......... and also tune in to see if Cavs can prove the 20 pt win in boston was no fluke... will there be any retribution against glen davis for his dirty play against shaq? highly doubtful that any cav player will risk a suspension by the league but it will be interesting to watch

March 14, 2010  11:31 AM ET

this was written by the LA times
who cares what they think about the celtics?
of course they are going to criticize boston, if this was written by the boston globe maybe id care

you know what they are saying over here in boston?
the lakers play better without kobe

March 14, 2010  11:31 AM ET

Celts were going nowhere with that team they had. Pierce would have left and who knows how Rondo would have panned out without the guidance of the big 3. It was worth it...............
