In addition to referring to 27-year-old winger Sean Avery as "a reasonably effective player as well as a detriment to the team," in salary arbitration, the Rangers also said Avery was an immature player who plays at times like an individual rather than a member of a team. Avery said he was shocked and had no idea why the comments had been made.

Perhaps because they are true!

They may or may not be true, but I understand his position because it was only a few months ago they talked about him being one of their most effective players and a key reason to their success late in the season. This is the danger of salary arbitration. You have to basically rip apart every quality of a player and then sign him to your team and hope he plays hard for you. Avery, though, should realize that is the business side of this and not be making such a big deal about being ripped by the team. Going into arbitration he should have known this would be happening.

Oh, Avery's feelings are hurt? Poor boy! He'll need therapy to get over the trauma or he'll be twisted for life! LOL!

Grow up, Sean! You've made your living at being an obnoxious big mouth! Obviously, the "immature player" part is true! I wonder what nice stuff you said about Sather and the Rangers in the meeting yesterday? What's good for the goose.....!

Avery was shocked and had no idea why the comments had been made? Uhhh, maybe because they are true?

No doubt they praised him prior to the playoffs. . . .they wanted him to play the game that he could play. . . . . after losing out . . . . . the Rangers could've cared less about Avery and are probably prepping him for a trade as the other team wants Avery , but for less money . . . . . . same as what Philly did for Pitkanen when they sent him to Edmonton . . . . .makes it for an easier trade . . .on paper anyhow

July 31, 2007  11:15 PM ET

I am shocked that that was all the Rangers had to say. I could go on for days.....

Wow, I didn't know that Sean Avery was such a sensitive guy. I bet that he cries every time he watches the movie Beaches!!!!

Don't worry Sean, you can afford therapy! However, too bad money can not by you a new personality!

Damn you Midler!!!!!

I hate Avery AND the Rangers but I gotta admit he turned the season around for them last year.....I cant believe he wasnt more of a priority for them....

August 1, 2007  08:04 PM ET

well. . . .TSN reports that Avery won a$ 1.9 million from arbritation . . . . . a far cry from the $2.7 million that he was demanding . . . . . . . the Rangers are now all suportive of Avery . . . . .LOL. . . .I still think he's getting set up for a trade . . . . .

More of a priority for what?? Running off at the mouth before the series with the Senators about how great he was going to be and then disappearing for the entire series? Really so not worth this amount of money - especially with the attitude and me first attitude he always displays. Hey Sean - it ain't all about you!

August 2, 2007  01:20 PM ET

Avery is a good player but how many times do you hear that with a BUT at the end of it. Hes no Darcy Tucker and he hurts their team more than helps it. Especially with the additions of the two new snipers they need this guy to shut his mouth and play the way he can and then you might finally see a talented Sean Avery.
