The Chiefs are bracing for a training-camp holdout by running back Larry Johnson. Johnson has 3 years left on the deal he signed as a rookie in 2003. He is scheduled to make $1.85 million this year and $967,000 next year. The Chiefs have been talking to Johnson's agent about a new deal, but the two sides still are far apart. A club source put the odds of Johnson holding out this summer at 50-50.

come to Green Bay LJ

May 2, 2007  11:58 AM ET

What a punk, you signed a contract, too bad.

May 2, 2007  12:04 PM ET

That's right go to Cheesehead land....Please! Destroy their team not Kansas City's. There is no love for you and these type of headlines. It really is to bad there were no suitors to trade you to. Get it, the word is out on how much a locker room cancer you really are. Holdout and never come back......Just Do It.......Just be the T.O. of running backs for the league!

May 2, 2007  12:06 PM ET

That's still more money than most of us see in a lifetime, let alone a year... Suck it up and play.

May 2, 2007  12:10 PM ET

hmm why does he want to hold on. you signed the contract right LJ???. who told you not to add more performance incentives to your contracts huh????. his cheap salary is credit for the chiefs drafting him late.

May 2, 2007  12:46 PM ET

Ahhhh....As a Packer fan....I'll gladly welcome this "locker room Cancer" on our team. Oh...and BlackJack, if every player that wants to hold out for a bigger contract is a locker room cancer, theres about 10% of the league that isn't a locker room cancer.

We may not like it, but this is the way the NFL has gone, and players now demand more money even when they are in a current contract. Is anyone aware of why they are doing that? Because there are owners out there willing to pay them more money, so lets stop blaming the players. Trust me, I'd do whatever I can to get out of my contract if it meant I was going to make between 4 and 5 times the amount I am right now. It's the real world, we'd all do it, so STOP blaming players when money is being waved in their faces.

May 2, 2007  01:05 PM ET

If a player does not play to the level of his contract, he gets cut...so I think if a player out-performs his contract, he has every right to demand more money...it's a two way street!

May 2, 2007  01:05 PM ET

A restructuring of a contract has to be negotiated and agreed upon by who ever drafted the original contract. Failure to perform would be a breach of that contract. It's sad to see so many players complaining about something THEY agreed to!

Anyway, Ted Thompson is way too conservative to work a deal for LJ. I hope I'm wrong about Ted because GB desparately needs a RB.

May 2, 2007  01:34 PM ET

HE SHOULD HOLD OUT! HE IS ONE OF THE ELITE 5 RUNNING BACKS IN THE LEAGUE! WHY WOULDNT YOU WANT TO PAY FOR A BRUISER LIKE LJ!!! HE IS THE CORNERSTONE AND ALL OF KC'S OFFENSE (other than Tony G). PAY THE MAN!! OR THEY WILL REGRET IT!

May 2, 2007  01:38 PM ET

Heeerrre LJ... HHEEEEERRRRREE LLLJ.... Come to Green Bay...

May 2, 2007  02:26 PM ET

The man need to pay . he gave you what he could do. rush for 2000 yard without a great line. Most of these rookies get paid without proving crap. so pay the LJ. as a bronco fan though release him so we don't have to face him(lol)

May 2, 2007  02:55 PM ET

2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and he has 3 years left????? my math may be wrong but he signed a 7 year contract?? put a provision for lower drafted players to opt-out of rookie contracts when it is obvious that they've outperformed them (Pro Bowl appearances, League Awards etc.).

guys like Peterson and Lynch will enter the league making more money than LJ and people complain about holdouts?? hilarious.

May 2, 2007  03:32 PM ET

I say he should just leave, and why would he want to play for a crap franchise like that anyway. Chiefs suck and they always will. Goodnight

May 2, 2007  03:47 PM ET

LJ has got to hold out. For His sake, his family and fairness. As a running back, you are always a play away from getting hurt. He is a legit top three running back. Just look as the countless 8-man fronts he faced!!! WHY? because after him The CHiEFS only legit offense is a reciever who happens to be a TE. PAY THE MAN!!! PaY HIM!!

May 2, 2007  03:53 PM ET

good! I hope you never comeback!

May 2, 2007  03:54 PM ET

The AFC West will be a better place with out him...hahahaha....Go Bolts!

May 2, 2007  03:57 PM ET

blah blah blah blah

Peterson will pay him. He knows he has to. But, he doesn't have to make it easy for him.

May 2, 2007  04:04 PM ET

It would be stupid to pay him too much, there NEVER has been a back that has carried the rock 400 times in a season and done well after that.

May 2, 2007  04:09 PM ET

You could argue T.O. is a great receiver but there are good reasons he has bounced around from team to team - he is selfish and disruptive to the franchise. The same holds for LJ - great talent but poor character. The fact is that he signed a contract and should live up to it. Lets wait and see if actually holds out. If he does hold out then maybe short-sighted fans from other teams will start to see a bit of what the KC fan base already knows - LJ is all about LJ and not the team.

May 2, 2007  04:22 PM ET

i dont want to hear anything from the donk fans. you are just jealous that you dont have LJ. carl will show him da money. just so he can watch LJ spike the ball in the endzone then it will bounce out back to the thirty yard line and knock out shanahans donkey teeth out
