Umenyiora in Coughlin's doghouse

The theme of Giants camp was supposed to be "Shut up and play," which is essentially the message Tom Coughlin delivered to Osi Umenyiora Monday night. Hours after ripping Simeon Rice and insisting he won't move from right defensive end if Rice is signed by the Giants, Umenyiora landed in Coughlin's doghouse and got a lecture from the coach. Neither party revealed details of their discussion, although GM Jerry Reese insisted, "I don't think that's a big deal at all."

It must be a big dog house! Will it hold up to half the team?

It will need an addition between now and the day Coughlin gets canned.

How is he gonna tell the team where he is and isn't gonna play??? If they move his **** to the left side he's gonna play on the left side, PERIOD! I can only imagine what people would be saying about this if it were somebody else!

What a gong show this team is. Any bets that between now and the end of the season, we see more on here about the Giants than we do the falcons?

August 1, 2007  09:05 AM ET

The Giants are becoming the new "Dallas"--as in the television drama.

**** 18.

August 1, 2007  09:19 AM ET

It is a non issue. The guy was sticking up for his friend and mentor on the team, and the coach probably told him the way he did it made him sound like a selfish player. So Coughlin tries to give good advice to a young player and that makes it a bad thing? A total non issue.

What a funny name!!

August 1, 2007  10:02 AM ET

Still isn't as good as Kiwaunaka.

August 1, 2007  10:30 AM ET

i agree with osi right now he is a better player than rice and the giants should realize they got to keep him happy he is young and the future of this defense they cant afford to anger him over a 36 yr old that cant play every down.

August 1, 2007  10:49 AM ET

What a mess the Giants are!
The players are either holding out or shooting their mouths off.
Eli is throwing Aflac passes in camp.
Tom C. is unable to maintain the control he insists on.
They insist that Brandon Jacobs will successfully replace Tiki.
What's next

Remember when players were drafted and played for the team that drafted them? Or they just did what the coaches asked them to do ?

Remember when players weren't more concerned with stuff outside their paygrade?

August 1, 2007  11:36 AM ET

A team... any team... in any sport belongs to the coach... that is what coaches do... they decide who plays and where... but in the NFL... players want to coach without the coaching responsibility... receivers want to quarterback... etc, etc, etc.... About StrayHam... he just need a little love after his divorce.... he can retire and do the Oprah tour and be a guest on Dr Phil and pay visits to his mouth buddy Tiki Barber in the set and show us his tunnel proportion gap in all his glory... To the Giants.. shut-up... To Stray-Ham... you are not Roger Clements (can't believe baseball allow that!)... just retire... you are not needed that bad and very posible Tom C don't want you in the locker room.

Can't wait to hear John Madden pronounce his name.

Agreed this team will be a joke like the raiders are, well maybe not that bad, at least their coach is not named lame kitten.

August 1, 2007  12:10 PM ET

Hammered_everynight,

You might want to lay off of the liqour. The Raiders are coming up........and FAST. The Gaints are not a joke. As much as I hate them, they are still a talented team with problems just like the other 31 teams.

Yes the Pats have issues.......at CB and the Offensive Line plays well but they aren't as good as you think. This is probably why you see them run a lot of TWO TE sets. Just like the Colts. You beat them by using the 3-4 and the OG's are weak.

August 1, 2007  12:17 PM ET

so much for being about the team.these guys are all spoiled babies.

August 1, 2007  12:22 PM ET

As a Philly fan I'm just loving the Giants off season. How could they possibly be any better this year with Tiki gone, and Strahan thinking the same. Even if they couldn't get the coach they wanted this year, they still should've made a coaching change. This year could be really ugly for the Giants, and I can't wait to watch Coughlin expressions on the sidelines after my Eagles wipe his team twice this year.

GO EAGLES!

August 1, 2007  12:23 PM ET

Whats wrong with this team? Coach problems, player problems, front office problems, QB problems. Good news for everyone else in the NFC East.

August 1, 2007  12:24 PM ET

I hate agreeing with an Eagle fan, but I have to say ditto Jazz.

August 1, 2007  12:32 PM ET

i love watching the Giants rip the team apart from the inside... its quite hilarious
