Rangers forward Sean Avery finished last season believing he had found a home in New York, and thanks to an arbitrator's ruling, he will live in it for another year. Avery was awarded a one-year, $1.9 million contract yesterday, a raise of $800,000. He had been seeking $2.6 million, and the Rangers had offered $1.3 million. The hearing lasted five hours Monday

I dont think Avery will stay for the entire season . . . .. like I said before . . .a trade will come

August 2, 2007  12:04 PM ET

Will be interesting to see what team is desperate enough to trade for him later this season. Who would want to put up with him? Really is all the crap he makes everyone put up with worth what he brings? NO! Until he grows up and realizes it isn't all about him he will not be worth what he brings - even if he were at the league minimum - but especially at this number. Absolutely ridiculous!!

do you people even watch hockey? with a little help from the king, avery almost single-handedly saved the rangers season by infusing the team with toughness and passion--two characteristics it lacked before his arrival. moreover, he is a far more skilled player than people give him credit for. thank god the rangers signed him, but i wish they hadn't had to take him to arbitration in the first place. and as far as his being overpaid, how many players making under 2 million have impressed the fans so much that they had their names chanted by the entire garden crowd after winning a playoff series?

hey cingram , we're not doubting the man has certain " qualities " on the ice. . .it's whats baggage he also brings in the dressing room . . . . . perhaps the word " disruptive " is too moderate of a word for most . . . . . . and I say that word with generosity when describing Avery and his antics with his own team

August 2, 2007  05:40 PM ET

Yes Avery will be traded. To Buffalo? he has friends there now!

August 2, 2007  09:57 PM ET

Simon is a**** u dumb chowder head, bostongm u are a****, U R AWFUL, Avery is the ****, he has balls the size of your head ****. Why would Simon do anything to draw attention to himself, you must be Simon's butt buddy

August 2, 2007  10:02 PM ET

The real leader "shanny" of the rangers was always a fan of Avery, even in the D, Avery acts like he is suppose to in the locker room, and anything he says public is about the other teams not his own, R any of you paying attention to what Avery did last year and what he said about the teams they played in the playoffs, he said nothing bad about the Rangers. Avery would **** u all up

August 2, 2007  10:06 PM ET

Avery will not get traded, the rangers just got the MSG fans back selling out games, so why would they trade the #1 fan favorite ( #2 mabee depends if the KING is putting up a doughnut) and stop having people show up and get pissed, they are buisness men they know what to do. They will by the end of the seasons sign him long term, or they will feel the wrath of the garden faithful.

August 2, 2007  10:26 PM ET

And lets see, with the players they kept and a couple of new front guys don't you think he and they know he doesn't have to be their goal scorer. He contrbutes, he'll play fine, and he'll irritate people on and off the ice. He gets players off their game and yes he may not alwayt be willing to drop the gloves, but he'll take the punch because that's what he's trying to do...draw the other guy in and put the NYR on a power play....do you get it.

August 2, 2007  10:31 PM ET

you must be a true rangers fan huh ? 97forlife ? . . . . . . calling people *ss , and chowder heads and something about the knowledge of the size of Avery's nads . . . . .now that's pretty intimate man . . .if you ask me . . . . . what are you ? the towel boy?

August 3, 2007  05:11 AM ET

AVERY WILL NOT GET TRADED, AT ANY POINT OF THE SEASON, AND SINCE WHEN DOES SAYING BIOTCH MAKE YOU GANGSTER (or GANGSTA as you put it Mrs Simon oh i mean chowder head no i mean bostongm) THE RANGERS FRONT OFFICE KNOWS THAT TRADING OR NOT RESIGNING AVERY WOULD BE PR NIGHTMARE........................................WORD LIFE

August 4, 2007  11:21 AM ET

Avery is not a Enforcer , He gets enforcers to do dumb things, YOU TOOL. that has been the whole point of this debate, he isnt suppose to fight, his job is just to cause havoc, WHICH HE DID A GREAT JOB OF THIS SEASON. He lead the league in getting penalty's called against the opposition. So when u do that u are doing your job that the team needs u do..... And tell me who is a real enforcer of todays game. cause the way i see it, guys like prohbert, domi. grimmson, would eat up any of todays so called enforcers.............Now take off your apron and go open up for Chris Simon bostongm, Raw Dog with no vasoline........................

August 4, 2007  06:14 PM ET

Wow imagine that, Sean Avery the player most hated by the players, was voted the most overated player by the players, YOU HAVE SUCH KNOWLEDGE THERE CHOWDER HEAD, how and the hell did you ever come up with that conclusion. No Alexi Yashin is over rated. When u get to a 11th place team after a trade and help play amazing down the stretch and finish 6th, and sweep a division winner in the first round of the playoffs, That is over rated, they must know nothing about sport. WOW KEEP TALKING CAUSE YOUR JUST DIGGING A BIGGER HOLE EVERYTIME YOU OPEN YOUR CHOWD MOUTH... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK THERE KNOWLEDGE.......... U HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME, DONT KNOW WHY U THINK YOU CAN HANG WITH ME, BUT IF MAKES FEEL BIGGER AND BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF AND U CAN HANDLE THE REJECTION, THEN KEEP IT UP THERE BOSTONGM..................

August 4, 2007  10:18 PM ET

August 5, 2007  03:01 AM ET

POPS and bostongm **** together, yo pops do you live in NY, i do and guess what i have season tickets 4 the rangers, and the crowd does love avery as much as they love the king, and bostongm as voted on by the players you just said the key words right there. Avery wants to get paid, i dont see a problem in that, does jagr earn what he makes a year on the ice, no will gomez or dury earn what they make on the ice no, you cant blame someone for wanting to get paid... idiots

August 5, 2007  03:03 AM ET
