McNabb's silent treatment of QB pick

Donovan McNabb obviously has the power to end any and all speculation about his feelings over the Eagles drafting quarterback Kevin Kolb by making a statement. He wouldn't do that after his face-to-face meeting with coach Andy Reid Tuesday, so the speculation about his reaction to Kolb continues.

what a loser... always has been... stay home and cry some more McNabb the big suck... I feel sorry for Eagles fans... it must be getting harder and harder cheering for a big baby....

Wow, Fonzie. Tell us what you really think.... ;o)

Seriously though, the Fonz is right to a point. McNabb should know this is a business. It's not personal. Just say with a smile, "Well, I ain't gonna play forever" and get back to work.

RESPECT, people. Give it and you'll get it.

I'm frustrated because this guy has been overhyped and over -rated for a long time now.... any highlight throws this guys has, always seem to have a huge element of luck involved... he's no good....

May 3, 2007  09:18 AM ET

McNabb is a great QB. Sure, he has had some bad years and injuries, but when healthy he really puts up the numbers. Why don't you try giving facts to back up your argument instead of ambiguous bitching?

May 3, 2007  09:18 AM ET

I wouldn't go as far to say that he's overrated. His numbers speak for themselves. I'm a Skins fan, so believe me, I am by no means a biased McNabb supporter. He puts up solid numbers. He always has. He took his team to 4 straight NFC Conference title games. Yea, I know, they only won one of them, but not many quarterbacks have done that.

All that being said, he's not going to amount to anything in the next few years if he can't stay healthy. Let's be honest here. That's why they drafted Kolb - for when McNabb tears another ACL!

May 3, 2007  09:22 AM ET

McNabb's career stats:

1898 / 3252 (58.2%) not the best comp. percentage but keep in mind this is a pass heavy offense..

22080 yards, 152 TDs, 72 INTs

May 3, 2007  09:28 AM ET

McNabb over hyped? What are any of you talking about? The Eagles version of the West Coast offense has him throwing a load of long balls almost 3 out of 4 plays (Until Marty started calling plays). He has thrown and completed more 20 + yard passes, 5games into a season, then any other QB in the league over the last 20 years, and he still has a solid QB accuracy rating. All of this, and he is a legitimate rush threat. I'm not saying he's perfect, but look at the facts! My Eagles don't do any of the QB's behind center any favors without cultivation a legitimate run game. Defenses know when you play the Eagles, you don't really have to defend against the Run %70 of the time. Recievers get lazy because they are used to him making big plays and avoiding the blitz with his legs so they run crap routes. Look at the WR play from when Donovan was under Center to when Jeff was under center last year. BIG DIFFERENCE. Every time he has gotten hurt, it was because he had to run away from a swarming defense, or his pass protection collapsed. What more can you ask of a QB in that system?

May 3, 2007  09:34 AM ET

D Nabb is the best QB we've had in as long as I can remember. You guys sound ridiculous - he's a perrenial Pro Bowler who gives us a chance to win every game. If you're going to blame anyone for the Birds not winning a Super Bowl yet, blame the play caller. 70-30 pass to run, is not a ratio for success. Especially when you have the most explosive RB in the league. McNabb should be pissed they picked a QB in the 1st round - especially one that's never take a snap from under center. He's a shotgun QB from a crap school - lets call a spade a spade.

I have to agree with the McNabb supporters. I'm a cowboy fan, and as someone else said, McNabb gives you a chance to win every time.
Is he the classic drop-back passer? Probably not, but this guy can make all the throws; can buy so much time in (and out of) the pocket, and drive defenses mad with his scrambling (even though he's lost a step). And 4 straight title games is nothing to scoff at.

Plus, this guy has been the face of the franchise through some pretty rough crap -- getting booed at the draft, Limbaugh, T.O....cut the man some slack. He's been great for Philly and deserves better.

I have to agree with those critical of Eagles' draft. They gave Anthony Spencer to the 'boys...and, though there's nothing wrong with going after your QB of the future, Kolb at that spot appears to have been a major stretch. (key word here is "appears" -- only time will tell)

May 3, 2007  11:17 AM ET

McNabb it's a great QB that always seems to attract a lot of attack from IDIOTS he has produced solid-to-great numbers in a system where the coach seems to put him in bad situations forgetting about the run, yet he responds, he seems like a nice enough guy and really plays well, why are there so many idiots out to get him?... beats me, yet nobody seems to care that Brett Favre it's an old guy making a fool out of himself on the field, but everybody seems critical of a great player like McNabb...

May 3, 2007  11:36 AM ET

The completion percentage wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that he has, for the most part, had lousy receivers. Westbrook is the only other member of that offense that could be considered a legitimate threat. The problem with the Eagles is that too often one or both of them are hurt and not playing.

May 3, 2007  11:39 AM ET

The Iggles picked up Kolb because they were undeniably better last year AFTER McNabb went down. He has superior athletic ability, but he tends to go through mental down periods in games (ex: Super Bowl vs Pats, before he got injured for the season vs the Cowboys in 05, the 2 games before he got injured in 06). Kudos to Reid for trying to light a fire under this guys a**!!

May 3, 2007  11:41 AM ET

The only mistake McNabb has done in his career is the way he just lost interest in the most important game in his life, he seemed to quit, but he has ALWAYS been a GREAT player

May 3, 2007  11:47 AM ET

I think the points getting missed here. Even if you think McNabb is a good quarterback, and I do, he still has bad luck with injuries and the Eagles need a solid backup as well as somebody to groom for the future. They think they have that in Kolb. Whether you agree is another discussion. I am disappointed that he seems to be upset that the Eagles are trying to look out for the team's best interests.

May 3, 2007  11:57 AM ET

McNabb is a great QB who has been getting hurt these past two years. I think the Eagles should not have used a second rounder on a QB. Should have waited to fifth, maybe picked up Troy Smith.

May 3, 2007  11:59 AM ET

I do agree with you, what I don't understand is why people want to attack him, his getting injured is in no way related to his playing ability.

May 3, 2007  12:22 PM ET

Everyone who says that the Eagles played better after McNabb went down last year, and therefore he was the problem, are confusing causation and correlation. With McNabb down, Garcia isn't NEARLY as good a passer, and Andy Reid was FORCED to run the ball more - you know, somewhere on this side of 40/60 - and as a result, Westbrook showed how dangerous he can be and the other teams had to respect the run. Reid falls in love with how dangerous a passing threat McNabb is, so he idiotically calls pass on almost every down.

That being said, McNabb is a whiner, but i really don't care come Sunday. And as for Kolb, its probably a better idea to draft a good QB for the future when your present isn't already crap; I mean, seriously, most teams that draft a 'QB for the future' have had 2 solid seasons of suck and will have at least 1-2 more before their drafted QB develops. This way, there shouldn't be a long down period when you have to replace your franchise guy.

I still wanted them to draft Poslunsky, though.

Yeah, McNabb seems a bit high-maintenance... and he could have handled the TO situation better... and yeah, he's gotten injured a lot lately...

But at least he isn't breeding fighting dogs or carrying bottles with "secret compartments" thru airport security or missing charity dinners or getting slapped with lawsuits for transmitting STDs.

I'd take McNabb over my team's current circumstance anytime.
