Norcross (Ga.) receiver Devonta Bolton picked the Crimson Tide over Auburn, Boston College, Florida and Georgia. Bolton, Rivals.com's 61st-ranked receiver nationally, said it was a long process and so many of the schools were equal. As he got closer to his decision, it came down to a choice between Alabama and Florida. Sold on the academics and the care and warmth the school showed, Bolton rolled with The Tide.

Academics in the state of Alabama? What's his major, primary colors?

August 5, 2007  10:56 AM ET

No respect for Saban after bolting Dolphins for Bama......

August 5, 2007  10:56 AM ET

He might be a better college coach but showed a lack of character and integrity by leaving like he did

Look guys, Saban did a poor job of communicating with the press the last month or so in Miami... but coaches leave to return to the college ranks all the time... ( Including Steve Spurrier )...

If you want to understand "Lack of character and integrity by leaving like he did".... check out my blog on Dennis Francione. What Saban did is nothing compared to Francione...

Academics? Funny guy this kid!

August 5, 2007  02:40 PM ET

All the Devontas I know are intellectuals.

It's not only the way Saban bolted from Miami that bugs me. He did the same thing at Michigan State when that program was on the verge of great things.

August 5, 2007  07:41 PM ET

saban burned alot of bridges in south fla.my old high school wont even let him or any of his staff on campus to recruit

Do you guys know anything about academics at the University of Alabama? UA is ranked in the top 10% in the nation for public universities for enrollment of merit scholar students. The university also has placed more students on the USA Today All Academic team the last five years (24) than any college-including Harvard. So before you guys bash the University of Alabama get your facts straight.

The kid wanted play time, and he will get it in Bama. Akadimics?

August 6, 2007  11:39 AM ET

The young man made a fine choice for his education as well as
football future. Roll Tide!!!!

You Bama haters crack me up... You have no clue of the tradition and class at The Capstone.

bow2bama said exactly what I was going to write.

CrimsonTex has a great point. Many coaches (Pete Carroll, Lou Holtz, Gene Stallings, etc) left the NFL for college. People do this every day with there jobs. If another company is interested in you, do you tell everyone at your current job, NO! The only difference is these guys have a camera watching their every move and we don't.

browadcane...
You must have went to St. Thomas. I have heard that coach rant about how no one from the Tide will set foot on his campus. Give me a break... I'm sure the staff is very upset with that. Not being able to recruit out of St. Thomas in South Florida is very upsetting when you have Hoover High School just 30 miles away. Sorry man, I don't mean to seem negative. I'm sure you can imagine if it was your team and the area you lived in cried daily about your program.

My point is, it was not the first or the worst and it won't be the last.

Thanks bow2bama..I was about to mention some of those very facts! Alabama has a very good academic program! I should know. I happen to be a student there. :-)

the people that hate the university of alabama, usually hate alabama as well. why? because of all the "rednecks." it is a "hick" state. everyone in alabama is just a stupid hick right? do you guys even have computers in alabama?

Sheer Ignorance.

guess what? im from alabama and typing right now at 70 words per minute. haha.
and because of our "hick" reputation, the alabama government tries to make up for it by passing all of these rediculous racial integration laws. we have more laws supporting racial integration than any where else in the country. you also can't even be a legal adult here until youre 19.

oh, and for the record, im alabama born, speak with a southern accent, and have an IQ of 143
in case YALL didnt know, the "dumb hick redneck" population has died out do to natural selection.
