NBA trusts fans with 1/125th of MVP vote

07:26 AM ET 04.01 | Going beyond the realm of affecting mere showcase performances, the NBA will become the first major professional sport in the United States to give voice to fans in naming its season MVP. The cumulative fan vote will account for one of the 125 MVP votes. The other 124 voters are writers and broadcasters in the U.S. and Canada. "This helps fans feel involved given the passion by behind some NBA fans," six-time MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said. "They all have a passionately-held opinion, and this is a great way to try and include them."
