Sox aren't amused by Mariner mascot

Coco Crisp almost became roadkill in Seattle. The Mariner Moose almost ran over Crisp. Before the bottom of the fifth, Crisp was jogging, head down, out of the dugout when the Moose's ATV rumbled in front of the Boston bench. Crisp was clipped on the knee by the cart and staggered for a second, but didn't fall. Instead of getting mad, or even, Crisp played along with the gag, faking like he was going to throw his glove at the offending Moose, before running out to center. After the incident, Boston pitching coach John Farrell and pitcher Curt Schilling yelled at head groundskeeper Bob Christofferson to send a message to general manager Bill Bavasi that the Red Sox weren't happy with the M's furry friend.

CURT...shut up! Why does he continually open his piehole? Give Crisp credit...he's a good dude!

August 6, 2007  09:24 AM ET

Yeah Schill stay out of it! I'll always root for Curt because he helped us win The Series but come on let the coaches or the manager deal with this. Credit to Coco though he's been playing stand up ball lately and seems like a stand up guy.

Keep on talking Curt. He didn't want Crisp to get hurt.

Curt is just jealous
Because it's rutting season
And moose craves Coco.

curt go pull on your buddy g w

I don't know what I hate more, Schilling's inane talking or the people on her with their knee-jerk ignorance when Schilling says ANYTHING.

Calling out other players and being a "Christian Conservative" = fair game for your scorn.

Coming to the defense of your teammate who got hit by a **** mascot = give the guy a break.

August 6, 2007  11:02 AM ET

Loved Crisp when he was with the Tribe...he's still a fav amongst the fans...would love to see him prosper in Beantown. As for Curt? I will not say anything more.

August 6, 2007  11:19 AM ET

I agree cw54. What do you think the visibility is in one of those gigantic mooseheads? Mascot on an ATV doesn't sound smart anywhere.

August 6, 2007  11:21 AM ET

class act by Coco, he handled it great. Im a mariners fan, and that dang moose is gonna kill either someone or himself if he doesnt get careful.. Stand up job Coco, you took it like a real pro!!

August 6, 2007  11:35 AM ET

Didn't the Moose tear is ACL on year doing something stupid?

August 6, 2007  11:40 AM ET

I think he broke his leg while "water skiing" behing a golf cart or something. He slammed into the outfield wall and snapped his leg.

August 6, 2007  11:40 AM ET

It was his ankle.

August 6, 2007  12:39 PM ET

It was a good thing Coco played it off cool. There is no need of this incident, he could have seriously injured him. It's just like that other incident with I think the Saints? back up QB that got hit by a mascot on an ATV and missed some time.

August 6, 2007  12:45 PM ET

I have to give Coco credit - he's a class act. I'm sure there's no shortage of players that would have thrown a tantrum in his place. That being said, mascots should steer clear of players.

August 6, 2007  01:16 PM ET

Why couldn't it have been Wily Mo getting run over instead? He might have gotten mad at the moose and taken a swing at him, but being a Pena swing, the chances of him actually making contact would have been very low.

August 6, 2007  01:21 PM ET

Who was that dude that played for the Brewers that got midevil on a sausage running by the dugout? That was the all time best!

August 6, 2007  01:51 PM ET

Was that Randall Simon? Not sure. I'm glad Coco is ok and it's a dumb incident. I think it's good for Curt to look out for his teammates but after watching him since he joined are team I'm smart enough ti know he has an agenda for everything. Yeah Schilling shouldn't be the story but maybe that's why he got involved so HE COULD be the story. Great pitcher I will always respect him for 04 but sometimes he just needs to pitch talk after the season about anything you want.

open your eyes, the babies, over paid premadonas who think everyone has to watch out for them, give me a break. there are always things going on on the field, people throwing balls, camera men running about, and mascots driving around on atvs, open your eyes. just like the warning that says objects may leave the field of play, players should be told objects may enter the field of play so keep your eyes open and your head up. americans are a bunch of babies, take a trip to europe and watch a football game over there, the players know better than to assume nothing will enter the field of play.

Coco's a damn good sport. Imagine if it was Barry!
