Grossman denies Super Bowl loafing

The question was awkward but one that had prompted whispers and a flood of e-mails:Did Rex Grossman go all out to run down Colts cornerback Kelvin Hayden as Hayden returned a fourth-quarter interception 56 yards for a clinching score in Super Bowl XLI? There was a reason Grossman wasn't at full throttle -- and it wasn't loafing. "First, I thought he had stepped out of bounds," Grossman said. "Then I thought he was going to cut back [toward the center of the field]. Then I couldn't get around somebody and was thinking, 'What's going on?'"

Isn't time for fat, dork sportswriters to cut Rex a break about the Superbowl?

August 8, 2007  08:27 AM ET

Yeah, yeah, Rex, man, it's all right, go back to sleep.

August 8, 2007  08:42 AM ET

I wish Football would hurry and start .. so these idiot sports writers can find something real to write about.

August 8, 2007  08:53 AM ET

If it doesn't involve M.Vick, it's not a story.

August 8, 2007  08:58 AM ET

Wow.......Digging up last years non-relevant news again. I didnt think this was a story ...when it was a story. SLOW NFL news week......

August 8, 2007  09:12 AM ET

So basically, according to his answers:

#1 He wasn't paying attention
#2 He had no idea what was going to happen
#3 He was completely confused

Yeah, you're right guys, that was all blatantly apparent the entire game.

August 8, 2007  09:25 AM ET

he didnt loaf. he had a bad game, it happens. cut the guy a break.

August 8, 2007  09:38 AM ET

I hear he didn't eat his entire lunch that day either.. wait. Did I just ruin next week's story?

EXCUSES EXCUSES EXCUSES

Play to the whistle!

August 8, 2007  09:48 AM ET

The one thing Rex can do is throw a football.

Other than that?

He has no clue.

August 8, 2007  10:03 AM ET

Lets just put it this way. There was basically nothing he could do, or the Bears for that matter, to beat the Colts. Not once did I think that game was in doubt....And maybe twice did I actually stop drinking or eating to even turn around to the TV because it was one of the most boring games I've watched. Grossman stinks but it doesn't matter.

August 8, 2007  10:04 AM ET

Jeez, cut the guy a break. He was probably thinking about & planning his 4th of July party at that moment in time, just like he was on December 31st when the Packers ran over the Bears.

August 8, 2007  10:05 AM ET

Um, he's a QB... 'nuff said.

August 8, 2007  10:08 AM ET

Hey did he get a haircut?

Look! I could be a staffer at Fannation!

August 8, 2007  10:10 AM ET

He's as bad as Eli Manning.

August 8, 2007  10:32 AM ET

good to know he was thinking in his head "whats going on"

August 8, 2007  10:34 AM ET

It is going to be a long season for Rex if he is going to be cross-examined this hard after every interception he throws this upcoming year.

Give the guy a break. You know that last year was really his 1st year.

You guys might not have heard, but he was injured his first 2 years in the league. The NFL was considering re-instating him as a Rookie because of his bad luck with injuries, but when he went in the tank (around Week 9) they had to scrap that idea.
