07:50 AM ET 04.12 | During a closed scrimmage over the weekend, AJ McCaron, according to statistics released by Alabama, is making a case for himself. Now entrenched as the Crimson Tide's top current option behind returning starter Greg McElroy, McCarron went 17-of-30 for 215 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, per statistics released by UA media relations from Saturday afternoon's closed scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium. On their own, those numbers topped McElroy (17-27, 156 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs) and Alabama's other two scholarship quarterbacks. Through two scrimmages this spring, McCarron has gone 38-of-58 for 444 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions while taking at least a few snaps with the Crimson Tide's top offensive unit. In the words of Alabama coach Nick Saban, McCarron "has done a great job."
