Weis not tipping Irish QB race

A public practice Saturday offered few revelations about the Notre Dame quarterback derby -- in two of the potentially telling practice sessions, the three contenders each took the same number of snaps -- but in his first-week appraisal of the position, Coach Charlie Weis sounded mildly relieved. No players were available to speak after the workout, but Weis apparently hasn't deviated from a timetable he spoke of on media day, which called for equal time in the first week.

We could greatly elevate the plane of this debate with one of the devices shown at left.

August 12, 2007  12:36 PM ET

Pretty useless story.

August 12, 2007  01:32 PM ET

I have a feeling that Jones will be the guy.

August 12, 2007  01:48 PM ET

Same feeling for me, jg.

August 12, 2007  01:48 PM ET

*I have the same feeling. I worded that weirdly.

August 12, 2007  02:37 PM ET

OK im just disappointed Charlie doesnt take better care of himself. You guys probably dont care if he dies young but I do

August 12, 2007  02:51 PM ET

And making fun of him means what? He has better chlosteral (I screwed up that spelling) and blood pressure he has said. He just has a weight problem. I don't care what he looks like as long as he lives.

Jimmy Clausen is the next John Elway....HOLLA!

August 12, 2007  09:38 PM ET

raincoat-I HOPE! GO IRISH!!!

August 12, 2007  11:53 PM ET

just give the job to brady clausan

August 13, 2007  08:08 AM ET

Clausen throws the football like a soggy pickle. I say give him the starting position so that the world can find out that scouting reports are not that accurate. And Clausen will soon be 20 (sept 21st). That's right, he'll be a 20 yo Freshman!!! He'll be one of the oldest Heisman winners EVER!

August 13, 2007  09:28 AM ET

lefty - Charlie has lost around 25lbs over the spring and summer.

Not that you care, I bet it makes you feel good that you can sit behind a computer and say mean things, AND that the person you are making fun of can't defend themself.

warden - you haven't even SEEN Clausen throw the ball - jackass!!!
I see you already found an excuse for when he kicks michigan's **** the next 4 years!!

August 13, 2007  09:34 AM ET

Clausen is going to be like his others brothers when they played overated.

August 13, 2007  03:52 PM ET

jones is the best player they have to win games this season... done deal.

August 14, 2007  01:02 PM ET

nobody will care who the QB is after a few games.
they're gonna stink

August 19, 2007  03:42 AM ET

They have everyone thinking they're going to stink, rebuilding year, tough schedule, new defensive scheme, quarterback controversy. They'll be solid and surprise people - players turn over in college, that's the deal.

I heard he was giving the job to whoever gives him the best job!
