07:35 AM ET 04.28 | According to a report out of Arizona, the Cardinals have wanted Alan Faneca for years. Coach Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm were in the middle of rebuilding that unit back then, and a tough, perennial Pro Bowl was viewed as the potential cornerstone. But the Cardinals were in the middle of trying to restructure receiver Larry Fitzgerald's contract as free agency opened. Fitzgerald was taking up $17 million or so of cap space, and the Cardinals couldn't sign other players until that deal was re-done. Faneca couldn't wait, so he signed with the Jets.
