Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz is optimistic running back Kevin Jones will return for the regular-season opener Sept. 9 at Oakland. Jones is on the physically unable to perform list with a foot injury.

Tatum Bell, T.J. Duckett, and Brian Calhoun will do just fine. Kevin Jones will be just like Dominick Davis or whatever his name is now. He will be forgotten.

I have already forgotten...

August 16, 2007  09:31 AM ET

Legend,
As much as you're probably right, I just wanted to say, "I will never forget Dominick Davis. Not after his efforts allowed me to win my first fantasy league championship." I'm afraid Kevin Jones will probably be remembered, and hated, by scorned fantasy managers for a couple of years. THen, yes, he too will fade from memory.

man, no love for KJ???? he'll be back, he just needs some time to get his foot right!

August 16, 2007  09:55 AM ET

Aces....
You are right about Davis.....He was nice.

Detroitdan,
I like Kevin Jones....he just hasn't cut it...and injuries have hampered him. Why do you think the Lions traded for RB Tatum Bell and signed RB T.J. Duckett.....I really thought Kevin Jones would have been a Cowboy.....Well I am still PI**ED about Parcells trading out instead of drafting RB Stephen Jackson......

If Jones can prove he can stay healthy and a Different Better team he could do just fine.

How dare he waste a bottle of Aquafina!

August 16, 2007  10:01 AM ET

The Eagles, Colts, Raiders, Cowboys and other teams that run 2-back system could look at this guy to come in and help spell the starter.

I don't know if you guys thought about this or not........

***Why do you think that the Saints drafted RB Antonio Pittman??? They are letting him carry the ball alot in Pre-season......I think that RB Duece McCallister will be traded or let go AFTER THIS SEASON....

I think that the Saints are making sure this guy can Run the ball and pass protect and basically switch Bush and Pittman in and out. Let Bush do what he does and get more carries, then spread him out and let Pittman toat the rock......I like Pittman and think he is going to be a Stud...*****

I just wanted to know if anyone thought about that.

My BAD Double post!!!!

I haven't kept up with the preseason too closely yet, Legend, but that's an interesting observation. And I think you reach a perfectly logical conclusion. Deuce is still a beast, and I'm too lazy too look this up at the moment, but I'm pretty sure he is a well-paid beast too. Sometimes teams have to sacrifice a little bit of quality for quantity, and if Pittman doesn't provide too much of a downgrade, that switch could save the Saints alot of money for several years. I'd like to see Deuce catch on somewhere where he can be the feature back. He's a great cutback runner, so maybe he'd fit into the Texans offense (God knows he's an upgrade over Ahman Green).

August 16, 2007  10:31 AM ET

A-L: getting Bush to be the primary back will be the Saint's biggest priority, I think. But they know Deuce is too good to sit backup, or play second-fiddle. I think you're right, but Pittman is brought in to back up Bush; just like Wolfe was brought in to back up Benson when Jones left.

Of course, he might have just been drafted because he was the best option at the time, and he might just be getting a lot of carries because it's the preseason, and that's what the bench does. We'll see.

Seriously, hasn't he heard about global warming? I heard that plastic bottles may be the second biggest factor in it, after cow ****, that is.

Man, as much as I like Deuce, it's gonna be fun watching Saint games when Bush starts getting his 25 touches a game consistently. He should be a souped up version of Marshall Faulk, which is saying something considering Faulk is a future Hall of Famer.

Jesus Christ, the word being censored is f.a.r.t. F-A-R-T. Am I in fifth grade here?

I guess I shoulda said "flatulence."

August 16, 2007  10:43 AM ET

Wow, KJ is getting killed here. He was a great back at VT and he showed flashes with the Lions. He has talent and could return to at least an average-to-above average back form on a better team.

Forget Fantasy Football.....

Jones is good. I thought he was a BEAST at VT. He has just had injuries. I think if he was on a better team and new town, he could do just fine.

August 16, 2007  11:44 AM ET

Maybe you're right JFKJR, and we're being a bit tough on the guy, but after his killer rookie season, alot of people have had high hopes for him but he's turned in 2 straight seasons of not even getting close to 1000 yards on the ground and averages of 3.6 and 3.8 yds/per carry after gaining 4.7 as a rook while catching for 520 yards. I know that for a running back, alot of your performance is based upon the team you have around you and perhaps the Lions are more to blame for his shortcomings of late, but his numbers haven't really trended up. Plus, his Linfranc injury is apparently a bizarre, super painful injury so it's hard to project what kind of player he might be when he returns. Factor in the addition of Tatum Bell, a talented running back that might be very Tiki Barberish if he gets his fumbles under control (except he's a jerk and Tiki seems like a good guy), and you have the recipe of a forgotten player, I think.

August 16, 2007  12:01 PM ET

Even when Kevin Jones does come back, Tatum Bell will be on the field more than him. Bell is the better fit for this offense. He will be used like Marshall Faulk when Martz was in STL.

His foor will never heal properly, L
