Another Niekro knuckleballer?

Lance Niekro, who at 28 has not been able to cut it as a big-league hitter, has been refining his knuckleball and wants to pitch. He warmed up late in Triple-A Fresno's 6-3 victory against Tacoma on Wednesday night, and this is no joke. Niekro is serious about trying his hand at the art perfected by his father and uncle, knuckleballers Joe and Phil Niekro, and the organization is keeping an open mind.

When people talk about the most difficult thing to do in sports, they often mention hitting a big league pitch.

Well I think they've got the right sport / wrong action. Throwing a knuckleball is akin to painting a masterpiece or playing Voodoo Child like Jimi. It ain't just hard, it's amazing to me that there's human beings capable of doing it.

More power to ya if you've got what it takes, Lance.

Hey Lance..ask Rick Ankiel how easy it was changing positions!!!!! Don't the COORS SILVERBULLETS NEED YOU???

Forget the knuckle ball. This guys a KNUCKLE HEAD. 28 years old and just decides, hey, **** at swinging a bat, so I'll be a pitcher instead. If that doesn't work, maybe the team will open up a bat-boy position for you.

Why not? a knuckleballer that can hit around .240-.250 Perfect for national league.

The Giants would love to have a guy like that... I'm sure the Rockies GM would sacrifice his own son for a pitcher like that. He's been benchwarming on the Giants staff for years now because he hasn't quite been able to turn himself into the power hitter they wanted him to be. Why keep banging your head against the wall?

Tim Wakefield has made a living.

If he has any of the skill of his famous relatives, that's GREAT.

Send Lance to Boston--we love AND respect the knuckler!

Hey Dad Joe and uncle Phil won a total of 539 games. And neither was worth much at the age of 28 (Joe 55-61, Phil 17-15.)

I've seen pitchers become hitters! Let's turn it around just for fun!
