Teresa's 'ridiculous' requests for 8

Dale Earnhardt Jr. blames his step-mother Teresa Earnhardt, the owner of Dale Earnhardt Inc., for not allowing the No. 8 to move with him to Hendrick Motorsports next season. "She either feels too personal about the number, or the rift between me and her is too personal," Earnhardt Jr. said Saturday. "I'm not going to sit here and get personal about this. It's upsetting as hell and unfortunate, but that's just what happens sometimes." Earnhardt Jr. said negotiations broke down when Teresa asked for part of the licensing revenue, along with wanting the number back after he retired. "Just ridiculous kind of requests," Earnhardt Jr. said.

I don't see Teresa being a long term car owner like a Hendrick, Childress or Rousch. She'll get tired of it after about another 10 years and sell the team. Who knows, maybe Jr. could buy it at that point.

I've seen some pepole giving Teresa the benefit of the doubt on this one but this truely shows that she is a complete biotch... Wanting part of the revenue?? That's insane!!! She no longer has Jr. but she still expected to reap the benefits from him?? I think the shows that all you Jr. fans who doubted him leaving DEI... Well, from this, you can rest assured he made the right move.

I think Jr. should tell Teresa to stick the # 8 up her *A*S*S* and move on to a NEW # and show the fans what they think he can do!!!

Dale Jr. needs to grow up. He is a 32 year old whining baby in a man's body. I truly do wonder who he will find to blame for all the trials and tribulations he will face at his new racing home? My money is on Jimmie Johnson. I have no doubts that Teresa has done him wrong and visa versa. The thing is people are sick of hearing about this issue.

Hey foxman,
Don't forget her brookstick whiles she's at it...but then again she might enjoy it!

August 19, 2007  12:24 PM ET

Hey kmc, for someone sick of hearing about the issue, it looks as if you took time to read the article and comment on it. If you're sick of it, shut up and move on.

August 19, 2007  12:43 PM ET

Kmc, im not the biggest Jr. fan.. Cuz, J. Gordon rulez!!! But, I don't take Jr.'s actions as whining, by any means. But, just shows that he wanted the number but wasn't willing to kiss Teresa's crack to get it from her. So, he's just moving on.

August 19, 2007  01:24 PM ET

ok my last post on this subject....did Elliott cry when he gave up the #9? did Bobby allison cry whe he gave up #12?how about davey allison when he had the 28 or clifford allison when he died in the 12 how about adam petty and the 45 jd mcduffie in the 71 i think it was or benny parson in the 72, all drivers all thru the years have had numbers dale sr wasn't the first with the #3 it is just anumber drivers have thier name to be known by not a number... why does he think he is so special??? cause he is dales son? jesus come on people it is a freakiin number....... get over it.... when he proves himself and he has won 15 championships then we can talk aobut him and his number til then he has to prove himself... make his mark but he ain't done it yet so let it go.....

Well getting the eight was a longshot and I'm neutral about the whole thing. It really is just a number and Jr. should just move on, but I understand the sentimental and fanbase value the number has. Teresa is really a black widow trying to collect money on the number if Jr. was to get at HMS.

Maybe they should get Yeley to drive the eight.

August 19, 2007  03:08 PM ET

Until a year or so ago, she owned the rights to Jr's name...

She gave them up, I'm sure as a ploy to get him to re-sign with DEI.

This really is a small thing in the greater scheme of things. A woman of substance, style and class would have made the VERY generous motion of just giving him the number and wishing him success in his new venture. He after all has made it clear that he leaves DEI wishing them great future success in their new directions.

In one fell swoop, she could have given herself millions of dollars worth of positive publicity and taken a huge step towards contradicting her reputation as a wicked witch step-mother....

whoever inherits the #8 better be a veteran like Mark Martin or someone loveable like kenny wallace. anyone else is going to catch the holy hell raft of Dale Jr Fan's. Remember Gordon being booed and trash thrown at him.that's how i feel the new
#8 will be unless they are as i listed above.

Earnhardt and class don't belong in the same sentence. Any of them.

Uh, Redzone? Check your logic: "don't see Teresa being a long term car owner like a Hendrick, Childress or Rousch. She'll get tired of it after about another 10 years and sell the team." That would mean she would have been a team owner for 16 years. It's been 6.5 already, remember? If she was going to "get tired," don't you think boredom would have set in by now?

August 19, 2007  08:41 PM ET

No, Stewart, there's someone who has no class. Jr. has more class than that moron.

August 19, 2007  09:55 PM ET

Theresa is not his birth mother so they could kiss and makeup

August 20, 2007  12:48 AM ET

Hey KMC

Jr's performance with the HMS team will tell the tale. Although I'm not the biggest Jr fan, I still believe that his stepmonster did all she could to push him out. I agree with Fletch346 and ghostofthebabe...Theresa is just another shining example that money cannot buy class.

August 20, 2007  08:01 AM ET

Quit whining. Give her back the damn number. I thought that Jr. wanted a fresh start and a clean break anyways? "Make" a new number.

The only ones who should be upset at Earnhardt driving a new number are the idiots who got it tatoos of it.

I heard somebody on 'WindTunnel' suggest that Earnhardt use "83". Sounds like a good idea to me.

why not go with the #3?.... admit it - we all would like to see it.... it in no way diminishes his father's legacy...

I mean come on - it's his kid using it.... why not???
