Wood Brothers Racing team co-owner Eddie Wood said Saturday that for the near future, Bill Elliott will remain behind the wheel of the team's No. 21 Ford Nextel Cup car and that his son, Jon Wood, will finish out the season in its Craftsman Truck Series entry. Elliott has driven for the team since it fell out of the top 35 in Nextel Cup owner points because his past champion's provisional starting position have meant the team was assured of making races. He has gotten the team back to 35th in owner points, the final guaranteed spot in the field, but Eddie Wood said until the team is higher up in points, Elliott will be behind the wheel.

I personally think the wood bros. would be more apt to putting their own flesh and blood in their car, even if that doesn't ensure competitiveness. Jon wood has been racing in the minor league of nascar for years, and while he might not be the most talented driver on the circuit, family obligations may put him in the car.

that part has already been decided jon will be back in busch car next year..he isn't that bad of a driver he has just had a few personal problems but he has that worked out now and he will run busch next season with a few cup races and then in 09 he will be in the 21 for the full cup series.... that is hat glen wood said last tuesday for now jon will be inthe truck til the end of the season.

Family should come first, Hoosier, but unfortunately money is what makes the sport go... no car in race means no sponsor to been seen means loss of sponsorship dollars means no race team means no need for any driver.
