A senior NASCAR official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told SPEEDTV.com that if the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway is totally rained out this week, it could become the final race in the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup.

WTF? Changing the Chase line-up due to weather?? NASCAR has lost it's mind.

August 20, 2007  10:58 AM ET

I like how the "senior NASCAR official" wanted to stay annonymous...have some balls, tell us who you are and what supports your comment.

Yeh please explain this dumb paragraph I just read, do they mean they would run it during the week after Richmond?

August 20, 2007  11:33 AM ET

The way I read the article is that it will be run after the Homestead Race. And, if this race is moved to the last race of the 'Chase'... Will the 'Chase be 11 races instead of 10 or will they make the Dover Race the 1st race of the "Chase' in place of New Hampshire???

August 20, 2007  11:36 AM ET

Just got this...NASCAR will try to get the race in as late as Wednesday. If that can't happen this is what is proposed.

"The Chase participants, Poston said, are decided by rule after the season's 26th event. If weather precludes the Michigan race from being run this week, it would be rescheduled for the weekend after Thanksgiving. That would mean the Chase drivers would be decided not Sept. 8 at Richmond, but Sept. 16 at New Hampshire. And the championship would be decided not at Homestead on Nov. 18, but the next weekend back in Michigan."

Awesome, Michigan would be in the Chase. How great would that be for Ford, GM, and Chrysler. Their home state being the deciding place for the NEXTEL Cup.

August 20, 2007  11:44 AM ET

Wow thanks Fletch, let's hope it doesn't rain today and this a moot point.

August 20, 2007  11:55 AM ET

No kidding!! Itlcrash, great point. I wonder if Martinsville or New Hampshire got rained out if they'd move either of those races to the end of the chase?? Here's what I think should happen......
If the race at MIS gets rained out.. the crews are already there.. Just run it in place of the Bristol Night Race and move the Bristol Race to the last race in the Chase!!! Let the Bristol Night Race be the deciding race!!!

August 20, 2007  11:55 AM ET

If they move the Michigan race to November it could get snowed out. Can't happen.

August 20, 2007  01:36 PM ET

NASCAR SUCKS!!!! Only brain dead rednecks can bear sitting there for hours watching very noisy, funny looking cars go round......and round......and round.....and....round....and.....! I hope at least they have their heads on a swivel, like the owls so they don't get dizzy from turning around so many times. Aw! Shucks! Why am I wasting my time? They can't hear me anyway!

August 20, 2007  03:17 PM ET

Unfortunately, Michigan in November could mean a lot of snow. Then when is the championship decided?

August 20, 2007  03:18 PM ET

roamer, take your azssszz and roam somewhere else.. LMAO!! Those 'funny cars' you refer too are called Stock Cars.. Probably the same funny thing you drive, that is, if you're old enough.

August 20, 2007  03:19 PM ET

yeah, no joke. Racing in 30 degree weather with flurries...... hahaha

August 20, 2007  03:55 PM ET

So the Lions will be playing the Packers, two teams that are used to cold and snow, in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day in a domed stadium and Nascar will be racing... what? Snowmobiles?

August 20, 2007  04:08 PM ET

they need to get this race in wednesday, they only need 101 laps, get it done, ro change the chase around would be dumb, if anything, just cut race, move on.

August 20, 2007  04:37 PM ET

If it does happen, it would screw up the whole "Championship Weekend" Nascar had planned with Busch and Trucks crowning their champ that weekend too. Not much you can do with the weather though. A few years ago, the spring Atlanta race got snowed out and Bristol had snow flurries a couple of years back for their spring race too. Remeber Kurt Busch doing snow angels on the track after his win? It the schedule wasn't so full to begin with, we would have an open weekend to put a postponed race. If it's run sometime this week, they'll be lucky to get 50,000 fans in the seats.

August 20, 2007  04:45 PM ET

This is bullshil. I have tickets to the race at homestead, busch/ NNCS/ pit passes. Reason, I wanted to see the last race and cup presentation. I will demand my money back if they make Michigan the last race!!!

August 20, 2007  05:14 PM ET

They are going to run or try to run the race tomorrow at 10am ET. Which sucks because I will be working.

Tigator I still have to get my tickets for the HMS weekend. Its my home track.
And for you conspiracy theorists thats Homestead-Miami Speedway.

August 20, 2007  05:33 PM ET

Move it to Thanksgiving Day, we could setup two tv's and have Madden on one and Rusty on the other and mute both of them.

August 20, 2007  05:46 PM ET

it does not matter when they run the race. The chase is retarded anyway. Race for 26 races, build a lead and have to give all the points back. Jeff Gordon has already lost 1 title becasue of the chase. Take away a lead of over 340 points and they can take number 6 away also.
