Schilling a future Devil Ray?

Curt Schilling raised a few eyebrows when he said on his weekly radio appearance yesterday that the idea of playing for the Devil Rays next season had some appeal to him. Schilling did not come to terms with the Sox this spring on a contract extension, and up to this point, he had not specified any prospective matches, other than to declare that he would never pitch for the Yankees.

Thats funny Jr. . :) Actually with the return of Matt Clement & the rise of Lester & Bucholz I would not mind seeing Curt Go , I mean I love what he has done here but like Pedro & Johnny before him we got the best of him so adios. I wouldnt even care if he went to the Yankees all though I love his loyalty I believe Damon said the same thing . At Least Martinez went to Queens and NOT the Bronx .

Who wants to pitch for the Devil Rays?

August 22, 2007  07:29 AM ET

Shilling is washed up. He can become the Tiki Barber of MLB and continue ripping current players

August 22, 2007  07:35 AM ET

maybe Curt can get them to write a free AARP membership into his contract....

Is Schilling serious? What kind of appeal could it have to him? I mean the DRays have some good young players but he won't be around long enough for that, if they pan out. He must like the idea of being the big 'Ray' in a small pond.

Not a big surprise since all old people go to florida to finish out their life.

That's his best contract negotiation opening?
"I'd like to play for the worst team in baseball."
There now, that's leverage.

Shut up Schilling, once again. How do true longtime Red Sox fans tolerate this moron? (I know, the bloody sock heroics)

August 22, 2007  08:58 AM ET

thanks for the info JFKJR......maybe they will give Curt a list of all the early bird specials in the Tampa area. LOL

August 22, 2007  09:05 AM ET

this just in.....AARP memberships are no longer free......1 yr/$12.50, which is about how long i imagine Curt will want to stay with the Rays.......

What's the big deal about this ? He already has WS rings and he stated he probably only has 1 maybe 2 seasons left in him to play. He is also good friends with the manager & loves the Tampa area. Schilling isnt in it for the money nor is he seeking a contender so how is this a story?

August 22, 2007  09:31 AM ET

The Tampa Bay area is a pretty nice place to live. I am not surprised that he would rather end his career as a "big fish in a small pond" rather than a role player on a contender. He has his ring already.

Now, do I think this will happen?

No.

I agree with the bandit...

Being an Indians fan for over 35 years...this is just the guy Cleveland may go after as well. We LOVE to pick up pitchers that are done. Wouldn't surprise me if they contact him as well.

hey JFKJR....no worries man; my soon-to-be-retired co-worker was complaining about that very thing right after I posted my first reply......i'll give the credit to my co-worker who pointed me to the website.
