Junior takes blame for pit miscue

Any Dale Earnhardt Inc. fan who might think anything fishy is going on as Martin Truex Jr. tries to stay in and Dale Earnhardt Jr. attempts to claw his way back into the Chase for the Nextel Cup is off base. Just ask Earnhardt Jr. The driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet took the blame for a costly late-race miscue on pit road. "My fault, totally," Earnhardt Jr. said. He said he saw Jeff Green's crew changing a tire on the No. 66 Chevrolet as Earnhardt Jr. came in for a green-flag stop on Lap 168. "I thought I pitted past him, but I was two stalls before him," Earnhardt Jr. said. "When you come down pit road and guys are anywhere near your stall, you look and see if they're jacked up on the left because if they get dropped and pull out you can have a crash. You don't want to do that. I was just looking at that and I drove right by my pit."

How about that Kurt Bush ! Go Blue 2 !!!

Costly dude! nanananah nanananah....goodbye. It has been stated several times in here, the chase is stupid and unfair. The chase could cost Jeff another deserved title.

August 22, 2007  09:50 AM ET

Once again, Jr. is taking the blame as he should share some of it.. But, it's the Crew Chief's (Eury Jr.) job and the spotters job to help the driver count down as they come down pit row to where his lone stall is, among 43 others. Eury was probably sittin' on the pit box knockin' back a cold Bud and forgot to watch as Jr. made his way down pit road.

Looks like Truex is the man at DEI this year....a year earlier than thought....wouldn't ya'll say..........

August 22, 2007  10:28 AM ET

I bet Jr. cant wait to get to the season. Bet he was saying "how much longer".

August 22, 2007  10:29 AM ET

mistake - to the end of the season

August 22, 2007  10:58 AM ET

Agree with foxman
Congrats to the # 2
Dodge needs to be in the chase
Mopar Rocks!

August 22, 2007  11:03 AM ET

Oh! What a sweet man Jr. is! It's so hard for men to admit they were wrong!

August 22, 2007  11:33 AM ET

I'm with Fletch, it's the spotter's and the crew chief to advise the driver where to go. Jr. shouldn't have taken all the blame. What's he trying to do? I guess on the other hand, at least he's not putting the blame on everyone else but himself like Kyle Busch likes to do. KB nevers does anything wrong....just like Montoya. He's so perfect. Oh well, let's get this season over with!!!! Has anyone heard if Eury Jr is going to Hendrick?

August 22, 2007  11:42 AM ET

So Jr. Nation its come to 'let's just get the season over with'.

One must ask, do you like racing or just obsessed with Jr?

Yeh Hammered MOPAR does Rock

Does anyone else think those cars are ugly as hell?

August 22, 2007  12:23 PM ET

Let it go roamer. Let it go.

August 22, 2007  12:32 PM ET

Good man that Junior, admitting his mistake. Good man!

August 22, 2007  12:45 PM ET

Yeah, Jr is a lame duck now. Before, I think his team was, but now he is too.

Good luck at HMS!

August 22, 2007  12:50 PM ET

The Chase is going to be a little bit ridiculous this year. I am a Jr fan and honestly only Gordon and maybe Denny deserve the title this year. Carl is in 5th and is over 500 points out, and whoever gets in at the 12th spot will be more than likely 800-850 points out. That is ridiculous to be given that many points back. Didn't the rule used to be the top 10 drivers and whoever was within 400 points? Right now 4th place Tony is barely in there with being 398 points out. I don't think this is what Nascar envisioned when they introduced the Chase. I don't think they thought they would giving Kurt Busch or Jr or whoever 800 free points.

August 22, 2007  01:16 PM ET

Rockin', I've heard that Eury is following Jr but I think Gibson would be his best bet. I can't really see Eury Jr. working under HMS.

August 22, 2007  01:54 PM ET

I do hope Eury Jr. doesnt follow Dale Jr., Tony G is a better choice for crew chief.
Bud8 the chase format is ridiculous, I just hope Jeff continues with his top five tear and gets the Cup, leading the points absoutely counts for nothing.

And roamer why are you still here?

August 22, 2007  02:12 PM ET

Oh, but you NASCAR boys are so rude. Try and get in touch with you feminine side, boys. You will become more gentle souls, especially you, nascarzoni.

August 22, 2007  02:36 PM ET

I have no problem when someone admits fault.Good for you JR. Now-a-days it seems like pulling teeth to get a superstar to admit fault.I do respect that!!!
