Troubled safety may return to Lions

A judge yesterday dismissed five of the seven charges against Penn State safety Anthony Scirrotto stemming from an off-campus fight in April, a move that could help his uncertain status on the football team. Reserve defensive tackle Chris Baker still faces charges of burglary and criminal trespass, both felonies; simple assault, a misdemeanor; and harassment, a summary offense. Penn State coach Joe Paterno had said that he would not decide on a punishment for Scirrotto and Baker until their legal proceedings were settled.

Taking this kid back would do even more to tarnish Paterno's rep and the Penn State program - and make it just like the rest of the Miamis, and West Virginias of college football.
