Giants like Eli's Tiki defense

Shaun O'Hara yesterday morning read with a hefty amount of shock and awe that Eli Manning laid into former Giants teammate Tiki Barber, and the veteran center had an immediate reaction. "Good for him," O'Hara said of Manning. That was an overwhelming sentiment, as players, many others in the organization, and fans were pumped up after Manning for the first time in his four years as Giants quarterback used his words to stir the pot.

Well thank God. It's about time Eli grew a pair and said what's on his mind. Maybe this will open the floodgates and be a turning point for him to become an assertive leader on his team.

That Dallas D is going to make him wish he was handing off the ball to L. Tomlinson........

August 23, 2007  08:23 AM ET

glad to see a qb acting like a leader. tiki should have known not to run his mouth in public about this.

August 23, 2007  08:38 AM ET

I love that picture of him. He looks so proud of himself, like a 5 year old who just got a hit in tee-ball.

Maybe this is a good step for Manning to grow into the leader the Giants want him to be.

People of Japan, look at my ball; my swinging, pendular balls!

August 23, 2007  09:06 AM ET

stinki sucks anyway!!!

August 23, 2007  09:22 AM ET

I wonder how many defensive players on other teams laughed at Barber when he led the league in fumbles for three years?

August 23, 2007  10:07 AM ET

Maybe I should copy/paste my remark from the Peyton thread. Hmmm, nah. This whole drummed up story is just plain comical, kind of like Eli's leadership skills.

Tiki was the driving force behind the Giant's success, limited though it was. I'm typically not one of those fans who give more credit to the RB than the O-line, but in this case it was blatantly apparent to me that Tiki was NY's best player.

Now he's gone. Deal with it. He talks for a living now. And yes, he's going to talk about the Giants sometimes.

If he said anything that wasn't true, maybe there would be a reason for you NY fans to despise him for it, but that's not the case. Nor is it the case that Eli has morphed into John Wayne via his "I am rubber you are glue" speech.

Wait for Eli to prove something on the field, then start heralding him as a leader.

Legend-I doubt many defenses are looking forward to trying to take down Brandon Jacobs. The guy is roughly 6'4, 270.

August 23, 2007  11:30 AM ET

I really think Tiki is just trying to get his career started. It's a shame for him to do it at a former teammate's expense, but that's the choice he made. He has to find a way to stand out, or nobody will care what he has to say. He said Eli was comical, but honestly so was Tiki in his analysis of Eli. Listening to Tiki was really nothing more than a bore.

why don't you copy paste all your comments A**bag. Let's put a picture of shrooms up so people will think I'm cool b/c I do drugs. Bag of D**ks.

August 23, 2007  12:19 PM ET

I wonder if Williams will regret losing 20lbs. if Jacobs gets into the Dallas secondary?

August 23, 2007  12:27 PM ET

Rex Grossman fires his mouth off too when media dumps on him. Doesn't mean I'd want him quarterbacking my team.

August 23, 2007  12:30 PM ET

He's still and will always be a ****/****/Coward, take you pick

I've been doing some research on Eli and I still say that if his last name wasn't Manning we could be saying what a great job his doing. He did very well with an offense last season that his running back gave up half way through and really retired before the season was over. His three starting recievers where either injuried or developed Randy Mossidis. (I only play on the plays I want to play on) Let's be really honest here and say that even if the Giants had Peyton or even the great Tom Brady back there they would still have been in trouble. If a qb does not some one to throw the ball to then forget about it. Leadership does play a role but so does a teams tallent level. Let's put it this way. The Giants have reached the play off the last two years. Eli has put up pretty good numbers. His numbers are actually better than two Superbowl qb's I can think of... Grossman and Dilfer. Also in the Manning bowl last season Eli out played Peyton. Or am I the only one to remember that. I'll go on record as saying this. Cut the guy a break. Okay, the worlds got it. His not Peyton. Peyton wasn't Peyton until his 4th or 5th season either.

August 23, 2007  12:48 PM ET

Yeah, you're right BearDown, maybe I should just try to emulate your charming personality.

August 23, 2007  12:56 PM ET

Tiki is a tool bag. So far, the only commentary I've heard him make is bashing his former team. Get on with your life, already. Quit looking in the rearview mirror. He sounds like a guy who dumped his girlfriend and still calls her a slut to anyone who will listen.

August 23, 2007  01:13 PM ET

Tiki is out of line, but he's right. Eli sounds corny and they were def out coached last year in the playoffs. However, I'm glad Eli stepped up and addressed it.

August 23, 2007  01:18 PM ET

Again, no copy and paste.

A question for everyone.. How many 6'4 265 lbs running backs have been the feature back and made it through the entire season?. There's a reason nobody attempts this, and Coughlin and the Giants are going to find this out the hard way.

Between Dallas and my Eagles, the Giants are just going to get killed this year...

After this season, they'll keep shockey, trade buress, keep manning, say bye to Coughlin, Strahan will retire, and this team can start it's rebuilding process...

And it all should've happened starting this year...
