McNabb angered by Trotter release

Answers. The quarterback wanted answers. The ones Donovan McNabb got were unsatisfying and unsatisfactory. Just why did the Eagles shed one of their veteran leaders, Jeremiah Trotter, on Tuesday morning, mere weeks before the season begins? Why was the four-time Pro Bowler, and one of the only linebackers on the roster with meaningful starting experience, cut when the Eagles supposedly are trying to make a Super Bowl run? Why couldn't some sort of arrangement - a pay cut, a backup role, something - have been negotiated? "I'm shocked," McNabb said. "I'm truly shocked."

I am just as shocked as you are Donovann..........I guess he will go to a 3-4 team so he can use his power and weight....I guess Dallas could sign him and back up Bradie James and Akin Ayodele......Because Bobby Carpenter will more than likely go to LOLB to backup Anthony Spencer.

McNabb.......I really think that it is time for you to try to move on. I know about 1 Million Bear's fans and players who wouldn't mind having you. The Vikings, Falcons, Jags, Bucs..........A lot of teams.......

August 23, 2007  07:18 AM ET

^The Bucs would like every quarterback.

August 23, 2007  07:25 AM ET

The bears have a QB. Mcnabb is injury prone.

August 23, 2007  07:49 AM ET

No KRB,
The Bears have someone pretending to be a QB.

August 23, 2007  07:51 AM ET

I was shocked too. The Bears have a quarterback, yes. A good one? No.

August 23, 2007  08:13 AM ET

So a QB, a player on the offense wants answers from the front office as to why a player was released from the defense. When did he become part owner and think that he has the right to know why the front office did it? I think he just needs to worry about staying healthy and keeping HIS job.

eagles appear to be moving to free some salary cap for next season and the year after

August 23, 2007  08:25 AM ET

Not so pw. The Eagles are way under the cap, as always. Unfortunately, because I would prefer them to spend all they can.

August 23, 2007  08:30 AM ET

While I wouldn't grace my backside with anything associated with this team, I must say I too am shocked at this move by the eagles. What good does freeing salary cap room do now that the draft and whatnot is over? This is a move that should have been made, if at all, at the end of the season, not before it. Now they are short a seasoned veteran, albiet and eagle, and who do they really have that can fill the void? It does not appear as if they are looking for someone at the moment and I have heard nothing of other teams looking at Trotter so maybe my questions are misplaced...I'd just like some answers too...

August 23, 2007  08:34 AM ET

The Bears have a QB who is really not a whole lot less injury prone than McNabb (injured 3/4 of his seasons in the NFL).

I think Rex will have a decent season, though not good enough to silence the critics, who will scream and rant every time he does anything wrong, but I like McNabb. I'd take him.

August 23, 2007  08:35 AM ET

It does seem dumb to release Trotter and get nothing for him. There wasn't any news that they were shopping him. Surely someone would have taken a proven veteran for a late-round draft pick or something.

August 23, 2007  08:36 AM ET

McNabb wants answers. I want a bacon egg and cheese on a genuine NY bagel.

August 23, 2007  08:39 AM ET

Now the Eagles have a bunch of young LBs playing out of position and Spikes, who has some injury issues. The Eagle LB corp hasn't been great since William Thomas, Byron Evans, and Seth Joyner. This move doesn't help that.

August 23, 2007  08:40 AM ET

urnze i feel your pain...

August 23, 2007  08:43 AM ET

jaz, "The Eagles are way under the cap" sorta proves my point.

August 23, 2007  08:45 AM ET

Jeremiah must not have liked the Chunky soup.

August 23, 2007  08:45 AM ET

The are always way under the cap. They were way under the cap before Trotter was cut. I don't think it was a salary dump.

August 23, 2007  08:46 AM ET

It was a mental dump by Reid and company.

Does the team mom count against the salary cap?
